Default rust removal technique

I have seen this on you tube so I thought I give it a try.

Using apple vinegar to remove rust

No scrubing or sanding and the rust is gone in 8 hours.

Before

After (the black spots are old paint)

I'd heard about that, but hadn't seen results. Thanks for posting.

That is impressive. Forces me to reconsider the vinegar I douse my greens, cumcumbers and spinach with however.

That's exactly what I said to my wife.

I've been using it for a few years . It does work. Depending on how bad it is, you may have to let it sit for a few days and agitate it a little

Does it have to be apple vinegar? How about regular white vinegar? :

The label on the vinegar bottle should give the percentage of acetic acid, which is typically around 5%, but may be higher. Vinegar is considered a pretty mild acid but remember you’re still dealing with an acid that can be corrosive to parts over time. There are probably better and safer ways of removing rust from most parts (IMHO).

Yea, if you soda blast a steel part and decide to neutralize that part with some vinegar & water, it will rust within 5 minutes if you don't dry it immediately, even here with 10% humidity.

I wonder if a drop or two on a rusty bolt & nut would help loosen it?
