Default 66 327/300HP Holley Carb

Is the thin stainless steel spacer between the Holley carb and intake manifold necessary? If so does set on the manifold or between gasket and carb?

Yes, it's necessary, to keep the hot exhaust gases in the "hot-slot" from melting the carb baseplate; it goes as shown in the Assembly Manual, between the gasket and the carb base. Recommend plugging the holes at the end of the "hot-slot".

It may have been on the car originally, but I don't know for certain. If it wasn't, it must have come in one of the rebuild kits I've used over the years.

It was only used on the 300hp engine with the cast iron intake manifold - your 350hp engine and aluminum intake didn't use it.

7/16" steel Dorman cup plugs usually fit - if the holes are slightly larger and they don't, drill and tap the holes for a 1/4" NPT allen head plug.
