You're both right. When asking questions on here for advice, be specific. "Transmission question for a '67" is better that "C2".

But a generation thing can be used when there is no need to be specific. I don't know about the rest of you, but with anything past about '73 I don't know every yearly nuance. They may both be C-3's but I don't know a '79 from an '81. C5's and C6's I know ONLY by generation, and could not identify ANY specific year.

So in those cases, the "C- " makes all the sense in the world.

C1 Corvette generation 1
C2 Corvette generation 2
C3 Corvette generation 3
C4 Corvette generation 4
C5 Corvette generation 5
C6 Corvette generation 6
C7 Corvette generation 7

That is how i see the "C" used when talking about different years of Corvettes and i think it is easy and explaint the most when talking about Corvette
If we where to have 1953, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67 on the C1/C2 forum that would be lot of digits here on the C1 & C2 forum

How can that possibly be true? The 63 chassis architecture is the same as the 1982 chassis architecture but for subtle differences such as rear spring, bumper mounts, etc.

The basic configuration is the same with small differences. 63 had drum brakes 65 & after had disc brakes but basic design was the same till 84.

Yes, well aware. But that further proves my point - I don't believe the "C" can represent the chassis design since "C2" and "C3" have the same chassis. Yet your thinking it must stand for the type of chassis.

Can you elaborate?

While we're defending defenseless positions (there is no official meaning for the C) I'll throw in one that bothers me.
A Corvette can be called a Vette and I'm ok. But a vet is a guy who treats my dog, or served his country and it's not a car. I bet you guys who throw up in their mouth a little when they hear 'vert' probably think vet is ok.

Seems inconsistent that you shorten Corvette to Vette in your name, but shortening convertible to vert bothers you so much. Lots of people can't spell convertible correctly.

I wouldn't refer to my car as a Vette or a vert or a C2 and probably not even a midyear but it's OK with me if others use those terms. I prefer "Corvette", "convertible", and "Sting Ray"

As far as I'm concerned, my car is a 1967 Corvette Sting Ray convertible.

It's not a C2 Vette vert <LOL>.

But, to each his own .

Not true. I know what it stands for, and so does the saint, ohiovet and probably many more. Corvette. We're talking about generations of Corvette. Why the C should mean anthing other than Corvette makes no sense whatsoever. But, it makes for a fun thread. Anyone who cannot accept that it means Corvette I feel badly for you. Perhaps someone will take the time to post a wiki entry on it, and that will settle the matter for you.

JEFF You are right The C-2 &C-3 were almost the same. I stand corrected but my Grandpa told me that when we were drinking in a bar so I thought it had to be true.

OK, good, it's settled. From this point forward everyone agrees the C stands for Corvette. Now, on to the next issue.
