Default Corvete Correction Chassis, 6"X15" wheels, 215-70 Michelins

My goal was to try and have a classic appearing C1 while having the driveability of a wider C-4 chassis. Most restomods have something different than this...but here's the "first" wheel and hubcap pics of my '61, on Billy Dawson's chassis (Corvette Correction).

The wheels are custom offset 6"x15" steel wheels by Stockton Wheels, 215-70-15 Michelins with Diamondback wide whitewalls, and reproduction hubcaps polished by Trim Polish in Cameron Texas...

The front end will be lower than the pics ...but I just got the wheels on today.

Stan...

Nice!!
Are you using stock C4 brakes? Did the wheels fit without having to trim the calipers?
I just put some 10" X 15" Weld Prostar wheels on the back of my '59 and had to do a lot of caliper trimming.

You probably know this, but drive the car some before trying to adjust the front height - it will sink a little.

Thanks Mike...

Bill....it has been a looong time coming. Too bad that The Mercedes Chrystal Laurit Metallic just doesn't photograph...it really pops in the sunlight. All hubcaps from Corvette Central and other vendors are reproduction as far as I know....

Charles....I had to trim the front caliper cooling fins...but it only took about 5 minutes per side with a 1/4" 90 degree angle grinder and a 80 grit disc. I just loose mounted the wheels and spun them...and removed metal from the scraped area. It was quick and easy...front only. The rear calipers cleared with no fitting. ..and yes they are stock C4 calipers. I knew I would be trimming them a little.

Thanks...Stan

Stan,

that Mercedes color is real close to Sateen Silver, but as you say 'pops' a bit more.

I like white top with white coves

Lower the front a little and you got it perfect.

LOOKS AWESOME STAN - your way ahead of me......

Glassworks just called last week for the paint codes, so at least I will have a restomod hardtop? LOL

Project creep has taken its toll on me & now I tore my meniscus in my right knee, MRI this week, no fun....

My only criticism, and its minor, I think you've hit on the look you've been trying to achieve for some time.

FYI...Your car was the inspiration Frank. (white top/whitewalls)I just didn't want to build its twin (color) although I still have the paint code you shared with me years ago. ...and still love it.

The hardtop was part of my delay...but to give Glassworks credit...they finally came to my location and fixed the issues that I had.

Still have a lot more to do...but nothing compared to a few years ago...

Here's a another pic of the wheels/car later in the day...with a friend examining the depth of the paint.

The paint looks a little more silvery, in real life.....sorta like this pic, but it really changes a lot in different lighting.

Stan...

Edit: My son Derrick, asked me if someone enhanced this picture with Photoshop or something when he first saw it. He thought the car seemed to be brighter than the rest of the pic. Actually...the first pics were taken with a pretty good digital camera...but this particular shot was taken by my Bud's wife (...because he's in the pic.)....with her camera phone!! No enhancements...

Anyway.. Derrick suggested that make a I note of that in this thread...just in case someone else thought it was a doctored up pic too. The car seems to come alive sometimes...almost as if it glows??

I know, it's pretty strange.. SM

Hey Tim..

Interior is all Al Knoch custom black leather with wise guy adjustable seats....Dash and restored original instruments were installed when Mike had the car, along with the leather door panels and electric windows.

The seats are out of the car presently ...to work on the shifter/ cut hole. etc. I'm using a C-4 shifter...with a modified handle that I haven't finished yet. Most shifters don't have detents built in the shifter ..rather they depend on the feel of the transmission detents. I've been there and done that...never again. The shifter has been giving me hard time...but am on the down hill side I think.

I haven't been working on the car much the last few weeks...waiting till the weather gets funky (which it has just decided to do). We are iced in as of last might.

I decided that I wanted to enjoy the fall with my other hobby (skeet and trap) and continue this after our beautiful fall shooting weather subsided..

I'm completing the fitting and refinishing of a new (to me) trap gun this week...and then I'm going to go at the Corvette full time till it's done this winter.

Stan
