Default Holley Carb Dichromate paint

I am rebuilding the 4150 list 2818-1 carb on my 65 327/365 engine and the service replacement carb on it was painted with the gold dichromate paint. It is a bright gold finish and suspect that it is the Eastwood paint. It needs touched up. I do not want to bother with replating because it is a service replacement. How does the Eastwood paint hold up and can I scuff the existing cleaned surface and repaint?

Thanks,
Dave K.

I don't really know the answer to your question but I have a can of the Eastwood paint and I tested it on some scrap piece one day. It didn't look anything like the factory Holley finish - too gold - too bright.

And I'm sure with all the stuff that's in gas there is a paint solvent in there somewhere. So you get gas on it. It will strip the paint off

Thanks. Decided to leave natural after it comes out of carb cleaner.

For any one that's interested, here is a pic of my Ford Y-Block 6 deuce manifold. Carbs were painted with Eastwoods " Carb Renew". It kinda sorta looks like an original Holley finish. They claim it is resistant to fuel but I can't confirm that. No way I'm gonna try and run this on my car.

That looks a lot better than my experiment. My can is probably 10 years old - could be the paint has somehow gone bad - don't know.

Funny I tried an old custom color rattle can of paint two days ago. It had been sitting for almost 10 years. It spit solvent and watery paint. We concluded the solids had settled, and I needed way more shaking to mix it all up. Will try again tomorrow...

Anyway, that's my guess for your paint!

Harry
