New wheel and tire pics..
I bought another set of rims a few months back for another project but thought I would see what they looked like on the 66.. I have run rallies.. Goldlines and hubcaps... 17" Torque Thrusts.. the latest Vintage V40's..
The wheels that I got from my good friend Jeff are for another project but I wanted to see how they worked out on my White 66. They are 17x7 w/ 4" BS which I knew would work but they have 45 series tires.. very short.. Then the rears are 18x8 with 5" of BS with 245/45 tires. What say you...??
The only real reason I thru the Torque Thrusts onto day is that after switching rear springs the passenger side with the V40's was closer than I would have liked to the fender... The TTIIs have plenty of room even at 18x8....
Now with that all being said here are the V40 17x7 w 3.75 BS with 225/55/17 tires all the way around..

I like 'em! What did you about the e-brake cables with so much B/S?

Hitch,
I like the look of the 17" Torque Thursts in the top photo... the car has an aggressive stance and I like the grey spokes as a contrast to the white paint. Nasty!!

With the 18x8's in the rear you have to move the e-brake cable to the top of the trailing arm. With the 245/45/18 tire I have a 1/2" of clearance between the arm and the tire. I'm thinking that a 255 tire would work too.. There is plenty of room between the tire and fender lip..

The V40's (lighter grey spokes - bottom pic) are close and I have to be very careful with dips while turned excessively ie entering driveways.

Like the wheels, but the 45-section tires look too "rubber-bandy" for my taste - I'd prefer 55-section tires, to better fill the wheel wells.

These are supposed be for the 67 red coupe but I wanted to see how they fit on the 66. The rear tires fit great plenty of room in all directions.
The V40's with only 3.75 back spacing and the 55 series tires make it so that I only have a 1/4" of clearance on the right rear fender.
I have had the V40 wheels on the car for over a year with no problems though. I still like the V40's for the reason I bought them.. I just wish I could get them in a 4" backspacing.

Hitch, both look great! Like John, i like a little taller sidewall, too.
If you have a chance, a couple of questions?
Do the V40's clear the calipers without spacers?
The jackets on my PB cable don't like the rerouting over the top of the TA. They really need to be more flexible. Did you have th problem and how'd you fix it? (New cable?)
Thanks,
Harry

Thanks man I miss my Polished TTII's..
Harry,
The V40's clear by at least 1/4" on the calipers. The parking brake cable will bend you just have to persuade it... I did it with the original cables and then with the SS from Inline Tube.

I like the 17" with the 55 series tires. I also like to see some sidewall. In fact, I think the car would look best with the 17 and 55 tires and raise the car height just a little. Maybe just to the top of the tire.

Thanks for some nice pics! What's the diameter of those wheel/tire combos? AIR originals were around 26". Might be clearance issues if you tried to go that tall with such wide tires! And both your combos look quite acceptably KOOL.
I wonder if stock suspension components can stand up to the greater forces generated by the much bigger, stickier footprints when pushed to the new, higher traction limits?
Also would like to see some side-angled shots to see how deep the disc brake clearance spokes are compared to the polished rim. The original American Racing disc brake TTs moved the center outward, with curved-out spokes instead of the leaning-in straight ones on the earlier drum brake wheels.
And does anyone make a fake knock-off adapter to replace the TT II center cap? It's one of the vintage touches I'd appreciate on 21st century mags. (And screw the DOT rules)

Both look good. I have a hard time telling the 18 vs 17 rear! For some reason on white I like the wheels brighter. I like gray too but something doesn't fit, for me, on the white.
I had the gray on my mustang but polished on my 66. Have you ever tried a wheel that isn't gray? Just curious because we certainly have similar tastes.
I really consider at times what mine would look like with white centers to match instead of gray.
Do you have a 3/4 picture from the front? I think it's the best angle!

Hitch, thanks for the info on the V40's and the PB cable. Great picture! Looks like your bracket is in the same spot as mine. I'll make another pass at it!
Sub006... Autocrossing I ran Hoosier Street TD racing tires for years with stock f-40/41 suspension. Never had a problem with any component holding up. Its tougher than you think.
Thanks again Hitch!
