bolt question
in my AIM manual , page 187 , item #6 , shows bolt 3820348 . On my car this is a carriage bolt and it is slightly bent and I want to replace it . IF it is supposed to be a carriage bolt what grade should it be . I can find grade 5 carriage bolts at our local Tractor Supply but no grade 8 .
Anyone know ??

If it's slightly bent, that must have be quite the amount of pressure to bend a grade 8. Looks like it might have been a lower grade.
Did you check HD or Lowes, or even your local ACE/True Value for a grade 8?

I haven't really looked very hard yet because I don't know for sure if it is supposed to be a carriage bolt or not . I tried researching the number 3820348 but got nothing . If it is then I'll look around more and/or order the appropriate grade .

Don't use "page numbers" - they're confusing and meaningless, and are different for each AIM depending on who reproduced it. Use the UPC number and sheet number in the center panel of the revision section at the bottom of the page (in this case, UPC 9, sheet A2). Anyone can then follow you, regardless of who reproduced their AIM.
It's not the "steering rod" on the passenger side, it's the steering gear-to-frame bolt on the driver's side, and they're Grade 5 (3 lines) 3/8"-24 x 4-1/2" carriage bolts.
