'61 Tach Drive Cable Nut Loosens Up
After driving my tach driven '61 about 20 miles, I have to tighten up the cable thumb nut at the distributor every time I drive it. I also noticed a ticking noise coming from the back of the tach when the cable loosens.
I have tried tightening it with channel locks to keep it from loosening to no avail. Tach has been rebuilt and cable has been replaced within the last year. Any ideas why the thumb nut keeps loosening up? Thanks

It might have something to do with the cable rubbing on it's cover due to a bend in the cable. Maybe some blue locktite will prevent it from loosening up.

Maybe some of that gear lube from the generator tach gear housing has migrated into the cable nut threads. I would clean both the male & female sides of things with some solvent and reattach and lightly tighten with channel locks with a rag around the nut to protect the serrations. A little blue LokTite can't hurt anything (but NOT red)...
