Cross Flags Color
My friend lost points at "old town" for having dark red crossed flags on his 65 instead of the orange/red that came on the 63, and 64 flags. The judging manual does specify orange/red for 65......even on the 396 cross flags. I checked my emblems on my 65 and both the fenders, and the nose have dark red. I checked with Trim Parts and they offer both colors for 65 saying that "they have examples of both, and at this time, the correct color for 65 is inconclusive by NCRS". Yet, I find it interesting that the 396 emblems from them, are only available in dark red. The riverside red paint used in 63, and 64 was a orange/red color, so it makes sense that the emblems would of had that color. The red changed to Rally in 65, so it makes sense that the red in those flags might also of changed, and be a darker red, without as much orange. Any thought's? What color do you other 65 owners have?

Talk about being nitpicky. If they say it's inconclusive, then how can they ding you for it?
Do they charge you everytime you get judged? Or is it included in your membership dues?

"They" (NCRS judges) didn't say its inconclusive apparently - it was Trim Parts - and they have nothing to do with the judging criteria.

AFAIK and have always thought, the '63-'65 emblems used an orangey red on the emblems. The dark red started in '66.
Trim Parts probably just doesn't want to argue about it and tells you they can cover either color. Your call, not theirs.

The one on the right was the nose flag on my late late 396, which the (then) owner in 1969-70 gave me when I visited him for the first time about '92. It was broken in a front end accident , but he'd kept it.
Cast on the back, they BOTH have the part #'s 3872929-66 over 3859046-65 and the symbol NMP in an oval with 3 dots under the letters.

Here's a comparison; on left is a nose emblem I bought from GM, IIRC, in the early '90s. I didn't put the nuts on it so it flew off under speed, hence missing the checkered flag part.

As far as GM was concerned, there was no need to stock 2 emblems, that were nearly identical except for a slight difference in color, so the older red/orange emblem was dropped.

A little red paint and one of those 15-bristle paint brushes for fingernail decorations that beauty salon technicians use and you're good-to-go... Works great !

If you repaint the one on the left to try to match the one on the right in the picture above, you need more than paint and a brush. You need OCD counseling.

Everyone in this hobby enjoys something different, and that is why I find it so interesting. Personally, I don't drink the NCRS Kool-Aid. I would use the color that I like and drive my car every day. On the other hand, it is nice to see cars that are perfect in every detail.

Heck - I'm not an NCRS guy and I'd take 15 minutes to do that if that's what it took to make them perfect. I painted the three red/white/blue strips on my dash insert in the '61...20 minutes and looks like new

Ralph here are the crossed flags that Trim Parts sells for the 1965 vette. I know the judging manual says orange/red color are correct color for 1965. I can't believe that these colors left the factory........http://www.trimparts.com/part_detail...WQ9MTc3Mjc%3D/
