Off subject - maiden drive street Cobra Rep
I know there are quite a few on here who also play around with Cobra replicas so thought I would show mine that made took it's first trip around the block the other day. It's an ERA fitted out as a street model with a stroked 428 and toploader. I did the paint and assembly but had someone who knew what they were doing, build the engine.
This one is a video - ignore my wife laughing on the sound track - she thinks I'm nuts.
My apologies to the can't stand Ford guys.

An ERA? . . . closest to the real thing! Awesome car . . . love it. I almost bought a real 427 SC in 1975 . . . I thought the $8,000 asking price was a little high! Enjoy!
BTW . . . your wife is a very smart woman!!!

how does it feel under acceleration?..My Dr buddy had one took it to a place in Benicia,Ca to sell it w/ a company that has huge show room and they market your classic or what ever~~ at their place..salesman goes out for a test drive and never comes back.... totaled the car and that was his last ride..it was covered of course but those cars can get away from you...
Yours is just outstanding..

Dan,
Fabulous looking car! I'm envious of your paint and building talent. .... Forgive me for sounding like the old man I am, but be careful with the throttle. My Cobra is far more treacherous than my Corvette. If you are not already experienced driving very high performance cars, time spent in a pro driving school or on an SCCA autocross course is time well spent for Cobra owners.

Nice to see one in black with no stripes etc, AND, no side exhaust! I think that's the only one I've seen without sidepipes.....very cool, and probably a lot easier to live with.

Thanks for all the compliments guys - after nearly 4 years of building they are much appreciated. It's only been around the block a few times so nothing more than very light throttle so far. I had a FE Ford Builder (Keith Craft) stroke it out to 459 CI but build it fairly mild. It dyno'd at only 470 HP but torque was way up at about 535 ft lbs. Sounds mean at idle because I went with a dual point 427 distributor without vacuum advance (against my usual advice). It's built to run at 16 to 18 degrees initial advance but w/o the additional vacuum advance it has a pretty lumpy idle.
I always loved the street roadster look - although some of the Cobra guys don't know what to think of one without a roll bar or side pipes. They do have a reputation for being able to get one into a lot of serious trouble real quick if careless on the throttle. Without the rollbar and that brass windshield frame, I will probably be driving very carefully.

They always looked like a fun car. It's a shame GM turned down Shelby. But then again can you think how many replicas would be running around with LS power
