Default headlight bucket stop adjustment

does anyone know how hard it is to adjust the headlight bucket stop
adjustment? where exactly is it located? is it hard to get to?

I have one headlight that needs to close just a little more so it will
align up with the other side headlight bucket. is this a easy thing to
do or is it more difficult than I imagine? thanks for any help.

Photo below is the RH headlamp mechanism with the motor removed for clarity; you can see the "Y-stop" on the shaft. The bottom bolt on the "Y"-stop adjusts the flushness of the headlamp bucket in the closed position, and the other bolt on the other leg of the "Y"-stop adjusts the position of the headlamp bucket when it's open.

Adjusting either or both of the bolts in John's picture is doable with the headlight motor removed. If you're any good at working by feel alone it should be relatively easy. This would also be a good time to adjust the upper stop both (don't forget to readjust your headlights if you do this).

John, you continue to amaze me at having pictures to illustrate most of your responses to questions like this. We owe you a debt of gratitude that is going to be very hard to repay!

It's possible, but you have to do it by feel. Take a look at the picture and see the bolt you want to turn, the direction you want to turn it, and do a little at a time so you don't have to back it up. Move the door open slightly to move the bolt off the stop and turn the bolt in to shorten it to make the door close a little more.

It's a LOT easier if you remove the motor first - only takes a few minutes. See photo below with motor installed and compare to earlier photo without the motor.

I have done it with out removing the motor one time, took at least twice as long taking the motor out and thats not counting the loss of skin.

John in this picture where is the switch that turns the red flashing lights on the dash off once they are open? When my lites are on and buckets turned open that red lite on dash keeps flashing. TIA

It's that small black rectangle on the top of the assembly. In the pics there is no wire connected to it.

If I bump my lights down one short notch, the aim is perfect but the red dash warning flashes. Rather than adjust the Y stop, I'd just like to disable the flashing light. How would one disable the light?

You need it on the stop so rhey dont vibrate when driveing. Remove the bezels and adjust the bulbs down with the top adjustment screw.

Why didn't I think of that? I think I tried that once long ago and wound up not being able to find the bezel screw holes to get them back on. Oh the trials and tribulations of a "ham fist" do it yourselfer

IIRC the headlight aiming procedure is in the shop manual - you just need 25' of level space against a flat surface to adjust them...

The headlight bezels have a lip you have to engage to get them to seat fully on the bucket - then you can use a scratch hole to find the threaded hole and line things up and attach the bezel...

Doing things the right way is a better solution than Bubba-ing the crap out of something as a workaround..

I've been gone a while by I just recently fixed this issue after taking some time off. The fix was actually rebounding the fiberglass body back to the metal bracing support around it. CorvetteBen described exactly how to do it. My lights flip up no problem now. I also took the time to rebuild the actuators while I could get to them. Here is a link to his fix.
