Sermersheim Hoods
I am about to order a new hood for my 65 big block. The existing hood has good sized cracks around the bulge and had previous repairs at both hinge nut plates from being hyperextended. My body guy does not want to try to fix the cracks and would rather see me with a new hood. Before I fixed the hinge areas John Z had said find another hood, so I've decided to do that now. The cracks are not terrible, but they bother me too much.
Has anyone had experience with Sermersheim hoods? Do they fit well, are they good quality? Any tips?
Also, for 65, what color do I want, light grey or dark grey?

My May 65 small block hood is light gray, but I have a lot of beige fiberglass panels as well. At first I though I might have had multiple replacements but realized that wasn't the case when many of the beige/white panels were date stamped may '65. I had read that 65 was light gray but many of the experts such as John and Wayne have said that there were a mix of panel colors in 65...my car bears testament to that point.

Ok, so if you had my car, built on April 29th, 1965, what color would you choose?

Personally I would go with the color same as you removed. That way you can say you put it back as "original" as you found it. Don't know that it will actually matter since it will all be covered with paint. From what I have read you can't go wrong with Sermersheim glass...

Sermersheim says 64-65, light gray. My hood is yellowish (off white or ivory). I asked John Z in a private message what color I should use, but I tend to agree with you, go with what I have.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. If it helps, my surround was white/beige but I am going with an all light gray front clip on my restoration. But I still have a lot of other beige/white/yellow panels in my car and they are all "correct"
