Default C-1 Shocks

What is the best shock on the market today, to place on a C-1.

I just put good Monroe shocks on my '61. You can of course, spend triple that on some whiz-bang shocks with whoop-de-do features that our old suspensions can never take advantage of. I have a nice riding car without being overly stiff on the bone stock suspension.

Same here, I bought the Monroe Sensa-Tracs from the local NAPA store and they work well. My '61 already has 5 leaf rear springs and Traction masters and rides a bit stiff, the Monroes don't add to that stiffness.

That's also what I have - the specific product line name wouldn't come to me before coffee.

You used "best" in your post. There is only one best, Bilstein. If adequate suspension control is whiz-bang to you, you do not need best. It might be useful to recall that you own a car that is worth perhaps twenty times it's original sale price. That would argue in favor of "best" being best.

They are fine shocks if that's what you want to use. You will prob never notice their benefit unless you are driving your old C1 to the edge of its capabilities - how many here do that ?

I just took Bielsteins out and added Monroes from shock warehouse $125/set of four to my 1960 C1. I am totally satisfied.

I do not need the extra from the Bielsteins, whatever that is.

FWIW, Bilsteins broke both front lower shock plates on my 61. The ride was quite harsh. Replaced them with new gas charged Delco's and never looked back. I retained the Bilsteins in the rear to keep the solid axle planted; softer front and harder rear seems to balance comfort while reducing body roll.

And let's not forget those nice stress cracks from an overly stiff suspension...
