Default Soft top adjustment 62

Purchased a 62 with only a hardtop. There was never a soft top ordered in this car and now it is all restored and I have picked up all the parts to install the Convertible top and so far have installed all the brackets and today I have completed the top frame and attached it to the car. Now I need to know what is the best procedure to follow when adjusting the frame to the doors, windshield and side windows? This is now a bare frame bolted to the car. The ST-12 does not cover this adjustment in to much detail.
Thanks
Billy

Billy,
This is the way I do it:
1) Install all the w/s except the rear and header. (I lay the header across the windshield header loose)
2) Loosen all the frame attaching bolts and pull the frame up as high as it will go.
3) roll up the side windows
4) adjust the top to fit the windows and tighten the four bolts.
5) Push up in the center of the frame, at the pivot point, for the side windows.
6) tighten the tension arm bolts.
7) make sure the top frame will fold into the bucket
8) adjust the tension arm if it will not fit.
SWARE A LOT
9) make another adjustments necessary. A lot of times there is a compermise involved. Don't expect a perfect fit of the w/s

Thanks so much. I will give it a try and see if I can get it done.

There has been a lengthy thread on this in the past week or two started by "justplainwhacky" (not sure of spelling) where two of the top restorers in Florida did some painstaking explanation of the whole process....search for it....

I would highly recommend reading it also. I found it very informative.
Solid axel top installation can be VERY challanging to say the least.

Default Soft Top Brackets

Don't forget to add the soft top re-enforcment brackets that go against the seat back panel on both sides. If the car is a real "hard top only" car it does not have these supports.
