C2 Seats
Progress slowed down a bit the last few weeks. Here's the seats that have been altered. ProCar Rally high-backs. Added custom 3-point brackets, radially altered the headrests and altered the bolsters by re-shaping the foam and tweaking in the metal supports both upper and lower (pix don't show this). Way easier than building seats from scratch like I did on the '80.

Bodywork time
Remind me again why I was excited to get onto the bodywork phase?? When I wish that I had a separate shop for the mess this makes, I remember back to building my first vette in my mom's 2 car garage in high school. I'm happy with what I have.
With just 'lil ol me working away on it, I'll have weeks just getting the underbody, inner fenders and what not done before starting finish work on the show side. Patience is a virtue. Hope to have the bodywork done this spring and ready to get the drive train going. Won't paint until EVERYTHING has been test fitted. And no, I won't spray it in my shop. Rent a booth from local body shop buddy when that time comes.

I like the Duster Downdraft. I had a room in my garage with a wall fan to try to contain the dust.........still made a mess. So what is the plans on the firewall? I see you are covering up your wiper motor.

What kind of front suspension will you use, now that you've glassed over those inner fender openings?

Duster helps a lot! No substitute for a paint booth, but I have a decent 'prep station' going. I'm following what Ken Sungela did on his 'do it myself '63 restomod' project, except with a cover that can be removed. I'll post that when I get there.

Core Support Rake - Modified
Great Project!!
Your core support looks nothing like my 63, did you change the rake? Can you still fit and AC condenser?
Thanks Joe

Unmodified support from Vette Products MI. Their P/N 10421, 327 w/o AC. Can't remember what year. I'll have plenty of room for Vintage Air system.

Melting Slicks
I used the same core support ('66-'67 which has a higher rake than a '63) recommended by SRIII in order for the cooling fan and bottom rad. hose connection to clear the sway bar.

I was told that the radiator support cross braces need to be cut to install the VA system

'63 Vette custom hood and fender grills
Update: I've been busy doing body work and a lot that's been done is engine compartment and underbody. Door gaps and other panel fitting is close to done. Moving on to light body filler and looking forward to epoxy primer by April-May.
I have moved forward with another one of the ideas I've toyed with for many years. After working the designs in CAD and printing out full-scale cut-outs, I decided to have rapid prototypes made. Just a small section of the hood grill and the DS fender grills is what you see here painted silver (disregard the rough finish). That allowed me to cut out the fender openings and modify the hood grill area. I'm also getting the 6061 T6 grills CNC'd, but that will be a few weeks before I get those. The hood grill area dropped down to the level of the hood braces. When the body is on the chassis and the engine is there, I'll decide if and how the grills will be functional. Like other designs on this project, I'm attempting to stay close to the 'classic' styling of a '63. Thus, the location of the grills is not perfect for functionality, with a third of the grill straddling the radiator and the sides running into the hinge and hood prop location.

body work & headlights
I'm ahead of schedule and the next post should be showing her in SPI black epoxy. I'm feeling pretty good about the finish filler work on the car and am anxious to start the K2 build coat. Before I get to that, I plan on getting all of my interior pieces in foam and ready for the upholsterer. Then I need to spend some time prepping my '67 SS Chevy II to go up for sale. Way to much to spend this year on the '63, but we hate the thought of selling a car we've loved since '98. Anyway, I'm thrilled with how the headlight 'lids' went as far as bonding and fitting. Nice and rigid and the Rev2 design shed a lot of weight. I'm also waiting on the contract CNC shop to finish the hood and fender grills, but I guess there's no huge hurry.

Epoxy primer!
Wow, some projects last a long time. Here's a picture after we first got the '63 and it's sitting next to the '80 custom that is in black epoxy primer I'm guessing in '91. After almost three years of fairly steady work on the '63, now she finally sits in epoxy primer!!! Still a long way to go, but a guy has got to enjoy the milestones.
