Building a scale `67 Corvette L-88 version of the $3.5 million car
#101
Some of you may have seen my recent post in the Die Cast forum, but I realized I haven`t posted this here like I normally do. This build will be number 3 for me. Some of you may remember the first two builds that I did a couple years ago that were Black with Blue stingers and sold on Ebay.
The new one that I am building will be just like the one that went for $3.5 million at Barrett Jackson.
I have a little over a month into this, maybe two, and here is what I have so far:
Anyway, I have a question for you guys since you are the experts. I noticed in this image here that there is a white label on the console just to the rear of the gear indicator that appears to be turned 90º. What is this, and is there a place where I can get an image of the original? Also, the same question about the yellow tag connected to the gear shifter. I want to make sure I get this right:
Thanks as always!!!

Its not quite finished yet but getting there. Still need to polish it out a couple more times yet. Sorry for the picture quality. I will capture it better once it is finished. The pictures don`t do it justice at this point.

Here are a couple pics with the `68 wheels for comparison. On this build, I`m not sure that they are working for me. I am thinking it is the bare black tires:

I like them both....
Maybe if you take some indoor pics under florescent lights you'll get a better look...although it couldn't get much better..

Hi Hawk, the model looks great.
If it were me I'd go with the rallys even though they don't have the correct center cap. I've never liked the factory bolt-ons and I've never understood why they're so popular.
btw..keep the black wall tires.

Thanks guys!
I think I will go with the `68s if I can`t get the `67 rally wheels to work.
I actually had a couple of ideas over the weekend for getting the `67s to work without sending them out. I`ll post the results once I am done testing.
And the 1:1 had black sidewalls, so this one will have black sidewalls.

Ok guys. I think I finally have the `67 wheels figured out. What a journey this has been! But I now have a process, and I will probably be using these from here on out on my builds. I still need to paint the silver areas. What do you think?
So this was the last piece. I am hoping to get the wheels on, get it polished out, and then you should see some completed pics, hopefully today or tomorrow. And then, off to Ebay I suppose.

Thanks Snake!
I usually don`t cut out the gills. My opinion on that is that the potential for error out-weighs the benefit of open gills. That`s not to say I wont start doing that in the future. I usually do something a little different with each one of my builds.

Ok, so here are a few teaser pics. The weather isnt`t cooperating tonight as it`s overcast and dreary, so it will probably be a couple days until I get some good pics. In the lighting, I am really having trouble capturing it for now.

Thanks guys! Just curious....what do you guys think of the wheels? As far as I know, the ones on this are the only 1/12 versions of them. I have never seen a die cast with them, or another builder attempt them.
Ugg, you`re killing me. After looking at my reference photos, I see you are right! On the bright side, it looks as though the semi gloss black piece is mounted as a separate piece, is that correct? As in, the chrome trim isn`t painted semi gloss black?
Thanks again! You guys never miss anything!

And a couple of questions:
1. Is the interior carpet as supplied with the kit or did you lay down a more realistic fabric material?
2. Does the kit or the real car lack its FCC-mandated ignition shielding?

Maybe I will give that a try on my next build.
I posted a link to the ebay ad in the other thread, and since this one is back, I will post it here too:
