Default C-2 Clock points to transistor

So I had the day off and since it rained here all day I was able to stay in the garage and tinker.
The points were sticking and causing the battery to go dead at times. So I removed the clock and the front bezel fell off. Some one before me tried to epoxy it on but that did not work. That will be tomorrows project.
Back in the 80's I used to get Skinned Knuckles magazine and I remembered seeing a hit on using a transistor in a clock. Believe it or not I found it!
The person does not go into detail as to how he installed it but he does state it did it on a Corvette clock.
I am not an electronics person but I very familiar with basic electricity.
Here is a picture of the points:

As you can see the point were not aligned and were worn out:

Here is the transistor I installed and it actually worked! I neatened things up after this shot:

Here is a video of the clock winding with some music in the back round. I think it is Carly Simon:

I did not change any internals so it still goes tick, tick, tick. I only took the electrical load off the points so they will not stick any more. The points trigger the transistor which sends current to the coil which pulls down the arm and winds the clock.

Same mechanical clock, not quartz. This method is analogous to using relays in the headlamp circuit to take high current off the switch.

Great idea.

That's pretty cool! What is the number on the transistor?
