For now, Tesla's expanding network of quick (20 minute) charge stations on California interstates are free for all electric vehicles with compatible plug receptacles.
Pay public charger rates average a cost equal to around $1 per gallon gasoline.

And strange Corvette sh*t really does happen. I saw a clean yellow '68 Corvette coupe several years ago with a flathead Studebaker six (around 100 hp) under the hood. The elderly owner liked his mileage on cheap gas, didn't reveal any performance numbers.

I had the opportunity to take the new Cadillac ELR out last weekend, even joined two Corvette cruises with it. Yes it's expensive, but an excellent ride. Electric is cool, and I look forward to and support the evolution of these vehicles as lower weight designs, longer range electric drivetrains and more re-charge stations become available.
The ELR is based on the same ICE generator + electric motor as the Volt, so there's no fear of the charge "running out." The car runs about the same whether consuming gas or voltage, and is perfectly suited to spirited driving. The ELR is notanother boring appliance.
Not sure I'd swap out the engine in my '65 for an electric motor yet, but I can sure imagine having the occasional option to enjoy 50 miles of cruising in eerie silence with only the wind and music. Don't get me wrong, like most of us I love the V8 rumble too - it's just there is something very zen like to the V8, and to time driving in electric quiet.
