Default R12 to 134a A/C compressor fittings

I am attempting to find the right fittings to allow my 1966 A6 compressor to recieve R134a. There were a lot of different kits at the auto parts store, but nobody had a clue as to what I needed. I believe that the side that screws to my schrader valve is available in either 3/8 or 7/16. I am nearly certain that 3/8 is the correct size. Now I am told that the R134a has one size on the low side and a different size on the high side - but the person at the different parts store doesn't have a clue which size goes on which side. Does any one know what size fittings I need on each side?

typically, the high pressure fitting and the low pressure fitting for 134a are 2 different OD sizes. there is a conversion fittings kit that will include one each of the proper size.

Why are you changing over to 134A?

virgin system and after a lot of thought I decided to go with R134a. I found someone who at least shook his head in agreement when I asked him if he knew what a sucking throttle valve was. I have talked to a bunch of shops and when I ask that question I get a blank stare, so I have decided to go with him. He won't work with R12 and I don't want to buy all the equipment and learn how to do it by myself

Ask around, you never know what somebody you know has lurking in his garage. I mentioned my possible need for R12 and and a guy I know mentioned he had a 30 lb cask left over from back in the day.
