Replica direct bolt on style knockoff wheels
#2
I would. Had real KOs for about 10 years. Used the lead hammers, dead-blow hammers, special KO wrenches, etc. but changing wheels was always a pain. Sold them and bought the bolt ons. Wished I did it earlier.

Scott,
I assume you're looking at the west coast corvette site maybe? While the bolt on can be secure it's not a knock off. It all depends on what you want to do. Are you wanting to be a purist or not kind of thing. To each there own of course. Just consider the variables between the two. But I would go with the regular knock offs personally an spend a little more on something like that. Good luck!

Would go with bolt on knock offs....don't need the hassle or concern with "real" knock offs. Got mine 10 years ago (or so) from Virginia Vettes...they had the best prices (same wheel as Corvette America).

I'll second, or third or whatever the count is the recommendation.
I got mine from Virginia Vettes and though my car is a '64 I opted for '65 wheels as I don't prefer the natural finish between the fins.

Before you buy any wheels, you need to look at the website for America's Finest Corvette. I just put a set of their wheels on my 1967 L71 and they are the best exact reproductions. Call and speak with Hal and he will educate you on why their wheels are the best!

I agree with others here, if your looking for knock-offs for a driver, then buy the bolt-on versions. There's nothing wrong with the true knock-offs, but it's just simpler to live with the bolt on ones.
The only problem is, if you want the Corvette America manufactured wheels, be prepared to wait awhile. Make sure whoever you're buying them from, actually has a set in stock. If the vendor doesn't have them, it could be some time before you receive them. The spinners have been back ordered, and it sounds like Corvette America doesn't expect to have them back in until at least January!
The Americas Finest wheels are very nice, but having seen them side by side, I don't think they are as superior to the Corvette America wheels, as they claim. Corvette America redid their wheels a few years ago, and they're darn nice now.
The America's Finest wheels are about $400 a set more, than Corvette America's, but if the CA ones aren't available now, you may not have a choice, as to whose wheels you buy.

But then you don't have grounds to engage in the monthly thread discussion (fracus) that arises - are my knock offs going to fall off, or should my spinners tighten forward or backwards?

I bought a set from VV when the new, more accurate design came out 4 or 5 years ago or so. They're GREAT. I'd absolutely recommend them if you're looking to stay with 15" wheels.
