Default American Racing PVD finish??

I'm about to purchase some AR TT2 17x7 wheels for my 66 . They are offered in 2 finishes. (I as told not in chrome) How does the PVC compare to real chrome? The polished wheel sounds like it would be a lot of work to keep nice.

I did some research on it but never got to actually see any (no one had them in stock locally). The conclusion I came up with was it was not what I wanted. From what I read from other people they don't pop like chrome.

I have had polished TTIIs for over ten years. They're not that hard to keep up. I use Mother's billet aluminum polish applied by hand every few months and they stay looking good. I imagine one of those foam polishing cones that I see advertised would make it even easier.

Yes they are the PVD coated. They appear chrome but if you compare them to chrome they look to have a smoke tint. I have had these on my black `64 coupe for 3 years with zero problems.

I was at the Street Rod Nationals last weekend talking to the guys at American Racing display truck. They have a custom shop that not even a lot of their vendors are aware of. Depending on what dia. you want they will make odd size back spacing. They also have chrome centers and polished outer rims. My friend has been running them on his 37 Ford for 2-3 years and they look great with very little maintenance. He gave me the name of one of his vendors in New Albany Indiana that he says is very good with these orders. Its gonna be a 4 hr. trip for me but when I'm ready I'm gonna take my '32 down there and let him do all of the measuring. So any mistakes are his and not mine. I've got the vendor's card out in the barn if you want it or you could e-mail American Racing to see if they have a vendor with knowledge of the custom shop closer to you.

200% support PVD finish. I have a set on my 72, and I gave the polished aluminum on my 64. No comparison.

The chrome tint does have just a hint of darkness, but I don't think it's noticeable unless you put chrome right next to it. I can't see a difference next to my chrome bumpers.

15 years ago I helped develop the process technology for the door hardware industry. Black & Decker was the first company to use the technology. Starts with a nickel plating followed by the PVD process. The finish can be done in multiple colors. We were doing a brass finish. It won't flake, nor will it lose it's shine. It's actually a stronger finish than chrome.

Wish some of this info was out there when I was checking, could have been a game changer. Still would have needed to see them in person but looks like they would be nice.

Had 15x8 PVD TT11's on my 78. Loved them so much that I put them on my 63 SWC. Shine is amazing and never takes more than a clean rag to keep looking great. Have had chrome wheels a lot but never got the compiments that I get on the PVD. When I bought my first set 3 years ago I was undecided between chrome and PVD but when I found out the warranty on chrome was 1 year and 3 years on PVD...it was a no-brainer. thats my 2 cents worth.

Your a-pillars seem to be reflecting so much sky blue in the pic, I thought it was a '64 with cookie sheets 'til I looked closer! My bad!
