Default 1966 Original Distributor Cap

Does anyone know the Delco Remy part # for the cap? Is it D308R "patent pending"?

I am trying to locate a NOS cap. I understand there is not a part # on the cap, but there has to be a part # on the packaging when new

Delco-Remy #D308.

As stated above. the top of the cap says "Delco-Remy, Patent Pending". There is no "R" or long part number. The box for the correct cap simply says #D308. The matching rotor is #D409. Again no "R"…..as this describes a later revision.

Very good reproductions are also now available for this cap, at about 1/3 the cost.

yes, but like most repros, there is a minute difference from the original that is easily observed. Right next to the points window.

I have judged many cars with this cap. For most folks it is just fine.

For the $$ versus the $$$$ for an original cap, many prefer to take the couple of points hit in judging.

If you re-set your odometer to zero after restoration and now have 10,000, 20,000 or more "original" miles on the car, couldn't you play along and say "the car's only been tuned once every ten years, the Delco cap on it was purchased from my Chevy dealer in 2006"?

he's referring to the "bridge" next to the window. it's judged, if that's what you're going for.

If you are interested in a nice used cap, I can put you in touch with someone that sells these at swap meets.

He does not have a computer, and is a nice person to deal with. Send me a private message if you are interested.
