Default How to identify original 4 speed in a 58 ?

Read the Noland Adams book on this, it has alot about the shifter assembly in RPO 685- 4 speeds but doesn't give any numbers to look for on the trans to id one original to a 58.

Can someone please let me know the casting number & where it can be found, also any other info that will be helpful in determining if a 4 speed is correct for a 58.

Thanks

A '58 T-10 will have an iron main case and an aluminum tailhousing.

Main case will be a T10-1

Tailhousing will be a T10-7A

Side Cover will be a T10-148

There will also be a stamped assembly date code on a machined surface on the main case adjacent to the rear of the side cover.

In addition, I believe the tail housing will only have three bosses for mounting the shifter (of course if it has the numbers JZ calls out it should only have three shifter mounting holes). Newer ones have bosses for two possible shifter mounting locations. If you have that three hole tail shaft, it is worth some $$. Saw three at Carlisle and each had an asking price of at least $2500.
