1959 Corvette tire size Firestone wide oval L60
I'm trying to find out what the "new" conversion size is on a Firestone wide oval L60, 14 inch tire. I've checked a lot of tire stores and no one can give me a definate answer. The car was sitting since the late 70's and it wobbles pretty bad! Also, is that tire size being sold again, I was told that it isn't? Any help is appreciated!

An L60 was a very wide tire back in the day and typically was mounted on at least an 8" wide rim. Anything narrower and it defeated the purpose of running such a wide tire. Many a Chevelle was seen burning down a set of L60- 15's back in the late 60's and early 70's on a Friday night! Corvettes not so much because the wheel well couldn't easily accommodate such a wide tire.
The L60-14 is interchangeable with the L70-14, the 265/60-14 and the 235/70-14. There are not a lot of tires in this size being manufactured these days. These are quite wide tires and fitting anything wider than a G60 (235/60 or 205/70) gets difficult on a 14" rim because there isn't much room for the rim to "dip" in the center which is necessary to mount the tire on the rim. I had a set of G60-14's mounted on 14X8" American Mags, on a Mustang back in the 70's. I nearly broke the bead of the tire having one removed to repair it at one point.
Good luck... GUSTO
