1967 Early Trim Tag Question- Double Stamp 7 over 6 ?
Hi members. I am looking at a 1967 convertible with an AO Smith Trim Tag. It is a very early car, having been built around August 19, 1966. My question is, have any of you seen a Trim Tag with a 7 stamped over the 6 before like this one?
I have looked at many Trim Tag photos, and this one looks genuine to me, but I have never seen anything like the 7 stamped over a 6. This car VIN # is approximately 100. Please see attached photo for the 7 stamped over the 6.
Thank you,
Steve

I have never even heard of anything like that, but assuming it's for real, I think it's really cool.
Are all the other numbers on the car correct?
I am familiar with the similar double strikes thing in coinage.

Why does it have drill bit skips by the rivet??? Does the car show all signs of having the colors

Not sue about the drill skips. The car does show all of the signs of color code on Trim tag.
Still wondering if anyone has seen this type of stamp on an early Trim Tag before.
Thanks,
Steve

If those are drill bit skips an ant must had a mini Dewalt with a bit the size of a hair. Dennis

I would say it is very likely original. It makes sense that this type mistake would have been made that early. Looking at the impression of the double strike there is no evidence of hammering it out. The machine simply re-impressed the number flattening the area of the 6 and impressing the 7 with the six still showing. If it had been hammered first the six wouldnt show in the 7 impression. There is no way we can tell for sure from here. That will have to be left up to the experts with the research and the tools.
Look closely for a faint pink check mark on the tag.

I wish to thank all of you for your replies and thoughts on this Trim Tag. I had a strong feeling that it was real, but wasn't sure enough to go ahead with my project.
I also emailed Joe at TrimTags . com , the complete Trim Tag in very high resolution. He has stated:
"It is a very early 67 probably very first day of production at the A O Smith Plant in Flint , MI. The person stamping the tag obviously was used to stamping 66 he automatically stamped it on this tag. Like when we write checks or date letters we inadvertently enter the previous year. This is a REAL tag and I would not get a new one."
I thank all of you for your help in determining the authenticity of this Trim Tag, and wish all of you a great week.
