C2 Instrument Cluster Removal
My 65 coupe odometer quit, while the speedometer needle jumps between 20 and 70 mph. What do I need to do. to remove the cluster on my factory air car?

John Z to the rescue. Go to the link below, it's a 2-part story, I am doing this right now on my '66.

Another supporter of this article. Make sure that you label the back of the cluster and the wires. Someone on the forum sent me a set of numbers that I believe that an electrician uses.
Also, a LED "forehead lamp" is highly recommended. Provides light where you are looking, and frees up a hand.
Best of luck.

I used that document and the AIM to rip out my '63 dash and even with all the one-year-only stuff it went fine. Yes - label the wires; you'll thank yourself later on; several companies make nice wire labeling kits.

I should have added -- the odometer/trip meter parts in these cars are very weak. My '63 odometer has already crapped out. I'm told its because of the side-by-side arrangement of the two wheeled assemblies and the plastic gears used. You have to get this professionally fixed from what I'm told. There is some sort of secret Buck Rogers magnetism voodoo that has to be done and maybe even steel gears installed.

In addition to the seat out place a cushion or cushions from some lawn furniture in the foot well below the dash. It will even out the surface you will lay across. Also the LED hunters type headlight is a great suggestion above.

Yes - use LED lighting for under-the-dash work.
You don't know what pain is until you are upside down under a dash with both your arms elbow deep in a wiring harness and that incandescent drop light with the scorching hot metal shield rolls up against your cheek to the point you hear meat frying.

Gotta go with John on that one Lou. Being 5' 10" in excess of two bills, the seat removal was much more comfortable not to mention quicker. Besides, I found an old pair of reading glasses under the seat. Christmas has come early.

I'm 5'7" and a buck seventy-five and I wouldn't think of doing this job with the seat in the car!
