Default 65 vent window frames

My vent window frames have very small black spots on them, looks to be slight long term corrosion. Is it possible to use something like 1000 grit sand paper to remove them or do I have no choice but to remove them and have them rechromed?

No and double no on the sandpaper. Much too aggressive. Try some 0000 steel wool ( Super Fine). If the chrome is good it won't scratch it.

Thanks, I'll try the steel wool and communicate the results.

You will be removing the corrosion which has started because the plating has micro pitted and it will return. Permanent solution is to re-plate. Have this issue on my 65 and on a 56 Caddy i have.

I recommend Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish.
I often very surprised how much chrome I can "get back" with it.
