Default Radio Rebuilds

Does anyone have a reputable person who goes through corvette 66 AM/FM original radio? My radio has a "static" noise when you adjust the volume. It is the original that cam with the car and I'm sure it has never been gone through and cleaned. Thanks, Jim

Default Radio info

Jim, there is a company advertising on ebay that will rebuild your radio & make it stereo & bluetooth capable among other things, they're a bit pricey but if you want a modern radio with the original appearance, this is the only way to go! here is the link:

Jim,

There was a post a while back in the General Section on this problem. You can do a search and probably find it. I can remember that the recommended trick was to turn volume **** from off to full volume a few times with a quick firm motion ( with ignition off ). Another member posted that the switch gets dirty and can be shot from the front thru the stem to the controls with a Radio Shack type of electronic cleaner but I can't remember the name of the stuff. Bottom line is several members reported back that they tried this and it worked. Worth a try before you spend some big bucks..good luck.

By the way I sent my am/fm to South Texas Antique Electronics for restoration last week. Estimate was $130 for electronics restoration barring a major board failure. He does all the other stuff too ie: bluetooth, ipod connections, etc. Will let you know how it works out. Promises 2 weeks or less turn around

1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 Corvette Am FM Stereo Radio | eBay
I bought this after market stereo radio through Ecklers, but: 1) There is usually a wait of 4-6 weeks for delivery, and 2) The quality sucks. I've read and heard this from others as well. One guy at a show I spoke with recently is on his 3rd one (which is why I won't bother exchanging mine). The station settings don't properly lock in with the push buttons, so you still have to manually tune them in. And when you turn it on, there is often a pause before it will play (as if its still a tube radio). There is also a goofy, P.I.T.A. procedure to go through to set the front/rear fader. So for almost $600, it's a way over-priced iPod player.

D&M has done some excellent work for Me including two radios. It may take them some time to get the work done so be prepared.

You will receive a detailed report of the problems and the solutions. Itemized billing of parts and labor. And, information on how to tune the antenna to the radio and preventive actions to keep problems from reoccurring. I'm looking at my bill which contains all of this.

I highly recommend this service.

I could not agree more. Absolutely my highest recommendations for Jerry. He is a bit swamped with work this summer/fall so will maybe have a delay in getting to your radio, but he is very good about emails and will let you know every single step of the way what he is doing, make sure it is what you want done, simple fix-it-to-run work up to full restoration work, cosmetic and mechanical. He will even send you the bag of parts he removed when restoring your radio, capacitors, transistors etc! He did my '67 radio this summer and it is 100% working properly.

I've used Robert Pacini for four or five radios now and he's a member of NCRS as well. Very, very reasonable, personable and fast turnover.

I had my 67 radio gone through almost 5 years ago by Jerry and I was one of many singing the praises of his work. I will continue to recommend him for a C2 Delco radio repair but I also understand that because of all the accolades he has received, he has become overwhelmed. Hopefully, things work out for him so he can enjoy life and not be overwhelmed in work because his work on a radio is the best in the industry.
Jerry, if you happen to read this, you are the best!
Rick

Spray some electronics cleaner into the volume **** opening and turn the **** (while turned off) while the cleaner evaporates.
Sounds like you just have a little bit of crud buildup there.
