Experiences with Classic Cars of Sarasota?

Two years back I looked real hard at a supposedly 'real deal' '69 Z-28 Camaro they had for sale. It was a gorgeous car but I couldn't validate the engine stamping (its on the oil filter boss in these cars). I looked at it myself very closely had a Z-28 knowledgeable buddy go over and do likewise. The dealer was very accommodating and put the car on a lift each time and offered a flashlight and mirror and gave us all the time we needed for the inspection. I felt like the price was fair and they were not being duplicitous about anything.
I didn't buy the car as the stamp pad just was unreadable and it was the generic "010" block which could have been from anything. It may well have been the original engine but I passed and the dealer was gracious about it. Just one person's experience on one particular car but even so, buyer beware.

Thanks for your reply.
I talked with Chris this am:
1) Car advertized as "frame off" in 2011, but verbally described as never apart, just freshened up.
2) Asked for photos of trim tag, stamp pad, VIN, and title---have not received.

Well I have a couple of highly-qualified buddies that do fee-based inspections down that way if it gets to that point!

That green car was nice.....if my split window hadn't appeared out of left field I would have considered it right off...

Got a video of stamp pad and trim tag.
Numbers and codes line up nicely, but hard to tell about the broaching and characters on the stamp pad. Also not sure about the originality of the trim tag.
Looks like it's time to get some eyes on this car. Will need someone who's pretty sharp on these early '69's. Expect to pay going rate for thorough inspection.
I'd like to forward you (and/or your friend in Sarasota) the video of the stamp pad and tag---He may spot something right off with these which could negate need for further inspection.
I think I have your e address, but.....

Before you buy you may be interested in what the BBB of West Florida has to say about this company. It's not good.

Melting Slicks
Hello
They have cruise in once a month. They open the doors and you and look at all the pretty cars for sale. Some cars are better than others. They aren't cheap, but if you want a certain car right now. I think you could do a lot worse. No pressure sales very friendly.

Drifting
I read some of the complaints. I'm not defending Classic Cars of Sarasota But, these are old used cars. Most were driven hard put away wet... They leak, They rattle, and they smell like gas and exhaust fumes..(So my girlfriend says) Unfortunately, They don't drive like new cars.....Drum brakes take some getting use too in FLA.. I always smile when I see a guy bragging about his car being all matching numbers with and incorrect master cylinder.....I'm sorry but you got to expect them to need work. Bring it to a mechanic have him look it over and use that as leverage to buy the car. Don't buy it as and investment. Most all cars are terrible investments. Buy it because you LOVE the car. NOT LIKE...

Also seems most if not all the complaints were from buyers from out of the area who had the cars shipped without seeing them first...

Burning Brakes
My thoughts:
1) buying any car at retail as an investment is likely to yield less than a savings account
2) some of these cars aren't what they seem
3) inspect, inspect, inspect - get an NCRS tech manual, pocket spec guide, etc.
then go through every major component and check numbers and codes
if you can't do it hire a reputable person (minor expense compared to a dud)
be sure to look under the dash - not pretty paint but might tell you a lot
4) better to walk away if things don't seem right
One of the guys in my '61 group did buy one there for a lot. It literally was just getting unloaded from the transport. We haven't gone through all the numbers yet but at a quick
look it seemed right.
Frankie might have some more thoughts. I'm just working off what I've seen and heard here in the last year.
