Default 1 x 4 Air/Cleaner Base

Can anyone post a picture of the proper orientation of the air cleaner base for a 4BL Carter. There are a few bumps in the base and I have no clue the proper position of the bumps.
Thanks,
Bud

I have a 2x4 but I think the large bump is to clear the bakelite, black choke housing...

What year, which Carter (WCFB or AFB)?

I assumed in the context of the "1x4" title of his post that it was a WCFB.

Those "bumps" fit inside the rim of the (passenger side) carb on a WCFB. You can't really put it on wrong if it's the right base.

As to Frankie's explanation...

...does the picture show the corresponding mounting / positioning (large bump over choke housing)?

A correct base also has a "tang" that fits inside the circumference of the carb and makes it simple to get it right. AFB has a different length tang than a WCFB, and both of those are single 4-barrels. (1X4)

I've never seen a tang on an original WCFB aluminum sealed air cleaner before, all the ones I've examined appear as in the photo above. I'd be interested to see a picture of an original part with a tang on it.

A small mark with a sharpie under the wing nut is a quick way to re orient the air cleaner when installing.

Dropped my $500 OEM wingnut on the floor getting this shot!

I believe the large "bump" is needed for clearance when the choke closes and that mechanism pivots.

Hey, thanks for doing that. My original SEALED Air cleaner (pictured below) does not have the tang or any evidence that it ever did. I am still thinking the sealed units did not have them.
