Default engine harness wiring

1958, new engine harness has leads going to starter; heavy black, violet, and green. Assembly manual shows just black and violet to solenoid.

And a long red along with a green and brown near the distributor, I assume the green and brown is for the ballast and coil, but where does the long red go? My main harness to instruments has a heavy red & red pigtail and I think that is for the battery gauge and then to cigarette lighter, along with a black for other post of the battery gauge. But that long red wire has me stumped.

Put on a fuse-able link and fuse on the ignition.

on the solenoid
Violet - S
Green - C
Black - B
red goes to the voltage regulator. (BATT)

Brown goes ballast or coil (if you have petronix ignitor).
Green goes to the ballast or coil (if you have petronix ignitor).

Be careful when you install the top shielding. Do not allow it to pinch any wires. Mine grounded out and caused the engine harness to melt. It could have been avoided if I had a fuse on the ignition side.

Thanks a lot!

search for "wiring diagram". You should be able to find one here which says the same thing.
