Default First time mid-year owner - what would you do, if anything?

A couple of weeks ago I introduced my new '64 coupe to the C1/C2 forum. I took some photos of the exterior, interior, and engine compartment and would like some feedback on what I should do to make the car even better. I know of a couple of things, one being that I need to straighten the rear license plate holder. I'm really looking for things that can be pointed out by those with a lot of familiarity with the mid-years and the '64 in particular. Thanks, in advance!

By the way, I absolutely love driving her and she sure gets lots of looks!

Can't say that I see much else that needs to be done except enjoy. Maybe tighten up that vinyl below the rear window, but the car looks to be well sorted out as is.

Thanks...yes, I had noticed that it needed some work back there. What is supposed to be on the parallel surface in the very back corners of the cargo area?

I'd look into the rear spring.

Figure out why that fresh air tube sticking up from the exhaust manifold between cylinders 6 and 8 below the valve cover doesn't have a hose on it going somewhere....

Other than that, I'm sure many members on this forum wish their cars were in the shape yours is in...

Congratulations!!!
You got yourself a Beautiful Midyear

The biggest item that sticks out to me is the missing bypass hose.
You need the hose and fittings that connect the water pump and intake manifold.

Very nice car, well done. Shouldn't the coolant tank/cap be level. Shorten or reroute the overflow hose away from the exhaust pipe. Dennis

That's an aftermarket composite rear spring (the original was a 9-leaf steel spring), but it has a composite main leaf and four or five steel leaves; have never seen that composite/steel mix before.

Looks like a sweet ride...

You might want to move the overflow hose away from exhaust...you can see it, its laying/touching on/the pipe in the picture of the starter area...

Nice car.
Look into the rear spring bolts....looks like the pass side bolt is longer (has more threads showing) than the driver side.

Put a 5 speed in it. you will thank me later.

One of the spring bolts has backed off compared to the right side. The bushing cup is not peened to the hole in the spring.
As John mentioned, that is an "unusual" combination of springs.

The upper shock bolts appear to be missing the lock washer on the bolt head side.

Does look odd. Looks like an all steel "daytona" spring to me. Fronts look to be large wire diameter, small turn count (stiff) too. Bet it rides like a buckboard? Otherwise, looks like you have a beautiful car. Congrats!

Don't know about the 64's but you might want to turn your front sway bar link bolts around, they seem to be up-side-down. (nut on top)
Definitely agree with 66Jack on the overflow hose, might start smelling rubber burning soon LOL.

Great looking coupe....CONGRATS!

turn your coil 90 deg. before you put the top shield back on or a possible short might occur, believe me I know. Ask John Z about this. Beautiful car

How does it drive??

I had that rear vinyl trim problem in my 64 coupe as well, actually it was not a problem until the rest of the interior was done SO, I did eventually replace that last piece with a new matched piece from CA. Gotta be extra careful doing that with the new rug and finished interior (bassackwards). Elected to use the brush on glue to avoid any collateral damage from overspray. It was still a big PITA to squeeze back there and work upside down with all that glue and a curved surface Pilot Dan

ps bottom reflector is missing it's top lens on the drivers door..........since you asked

At first I thought you were kidding...asking what needed to be done. You've got one beautiful '64 that appears to be well sorted out and just needs to be driven. Upon closer observation...and, you do need to look closely...driver's side kick panel appears to be missing. Absolutely, turn your coil 90 degrees before putting your shield back on...too many have shorted the terminals against the shield having it installed like yours. The left rear spring center bolt appears to be too "loose"...look at the right one to see what I mean...should be snugged up against the spring like the right side.

Again, a beautiful car that is begging to be driven. Enjoy

After you fix the rear spring I would make sure all your fluids are up to par along with the tires. Then just drive it

Beautiful car. I would adjust the front passenger side bumper to make both sides symmetrical. I did mine recently. I had to slot a couple of holes in the brackets to get them just right. Other then that, I would just enjoy the ride.
