Electronic ignition help
My 58 corvette has a 350 with electronic ignition. I drove it a week ago and parked it. Now it won't fire at all. It gets gas and starter turns engine as always. What would cause it to run perfect and after a week sitting in my garage now won't fire at all. Any comments, thanks for any coments

Coil
Could be a bad coil, bad ballast resistor, bad ignition component, timing out. First, bring a wire from the positive side of the coil to the positive side of the battery. Try to start the car. If it starts, you have a problem with the ignition switch or the ballast resistor. No start, most likely a bad coil or ignition component. The connection with the battery is for testing only. Jerry

Need much more info - which electronic ignition ? Pertronix ? If its an older Pertronix and you left the key in the ON position instead of LOCK then that can burn them up...

Yep, need to know what type of an electronic ignition system it is -- Pertronix, HEI distributor, something like a Mallory or Accel with a separate controller box...or???

I left the ignition key in the on position and burnt up the ignition module. I drove the car half way in the garage and got close to the wall and stopped and pushed the car the rest of the way and left the key on. About 3 minutes later I turned it to the off position and removed the keys. Thanks again guys

...and this doesn't bother you Petronix fans? You wouldn't burn up HEI or Mopar Electronic ignition leaving the key on..for three freaking minutes. It would take a whole lot longer than that to burn up a set of points playing the radio like I used to do in my old lady's station wagon.

He must have an older Pertronix. The newer ones have protections for that as well as reversed polarity.
They all have their idiosyncrasies...try running a Mallory Unilite without their "optional" surge protector in the circuit....have good walking shoes with you when you do
