Bought back my Vette!
Hey Gang,
I just bought back my 64 Corvette that I sold back in March! This is a first for me since usually when I sell a car, it's gone and it's time to move onto something else. But the minute I let that car go I started to miss it. The new owner had mentioned to me as the deal was going down, that, "Maybe in a year I'll sell it back to you for the same amount you sold it to me." So on a whim, I emailed him to see how "My Vette was doing?" and he replied that he just wasn't driving it like he should. So, FFWD a week and it's back in my garage where it belongs!!!! I've had to do some housekeeping on it, but it's back and I'm beyond excited!!!
It's the perfect time of year to have it back too. The weather has FINALLY broke here in Houston which will make for some nice fall cruising. Winter modifications will be some front disk brakes, new seat padding, and paint.
Anyone here ever buy a car back they sold, or wish they'd be able to buy it back? Out of all the cars I've owned (about 25), this is the only one I had considered buying back.
Cheers
Dave

Melting Slicks
I bought my first Corvette, a 1972 LT1 T-top, in 1974, when I was married with no kids. By 1976 my first child had arrived and I dutifully traded in the Corvette for a van. I regretted it almost immediately, but it was the right thing to do at the moment. By 1978 I had decided to buy a mid-year coupe so there was room for the kid in the back. (Nobody thought much about child safety seats back then.) I bought the 63 coupe I now have about 35 years ago and have avoided any regrets by keeping it.

Never happened to me. I'm on my 27th Corvette and have had 30 plus hot rods, GTO's etc. Usually the money is earmarked for the next purchase before the car leaves the yard. With no available money there is no way to buy it back.

I did too (a long time ago). My first was a Green and White '61 back in '71 for 900 bucks. Had the car repainted Candy Apple Red. I kept it about 1 1/2 yrs and sold it to buy a '69 T top SB. Kept it a year or so and bought back the '61 for more money of course. Wrecked it a few months later and had it repainted Black. It was too hard to match the candy color. Eventually sold it. Ah the good old days.

1957 redux
I wasn't able to buy back my '57 (bought in '75) that I had to sell to go to grad school in 1982 and I've always missed that car! Bought an '86 red/red conv. with white top in '91 and have been very happy with it(still have it, wife says we will never sell it). Bought a '64 silver coupe 327/365 and loved that car but it went when I wanted a big bike. Big bike(Indian Chief) was too much bike!! Sold it and found on e-bay 3 months later (Feb. 2014) a 1957 that was just like the one I had 30+ years ago(red/red/ white coves/with a hard top). Broke all the rules and bought it w/o an inspection from San Jose, CA and it is better than I could have wanted! It does need some things, brakes (lug bolts!) and steering gear rebuild, But I'm happy to have the car of my dreams since I was a teenager back in my garage!

Well of all mine there was one I should have keep. A 61 White White on Red 270 HP 4 Speed. It was originally a 3 speed however I updated it to a 4 speed. It had all the original paperwork including the salesman business card. From Washington DC if I recall. It was an AACA first place and later Top Flighted. When I decided to downsize back in the 90's it was the first to sell. Fast forward 10 plus years I spotted it at a dealer in Texas. I had given serious thought about bringing her back home but his price was just insane compared to what I had sold it for. Looking back I often think did I make the right decision passing? didn't need anyone to look at that car as I knew what it was. Have you seen it lately? It has a binder full of all original papers.

We traded in our '64 coupe for a new 2002 Corvette convertible as our 35th wedding anniversary present to ourselves. Last fall we got a call from the Chevy dealership telling us that the owner was going to sell our '64, and he wanted some info on the car. We've owned 8 Corvettes, and the '64 is my wife's favorite, so I bought it back for her. She said that she'll never part with it again, and that when she dies she wants someone (preferably me) to drive it in her funeral procession immediately following the hearse.

Great looking car! Whenever I get the silly idea of selling my 65 FI car I think, I'll never find another FI car like this one and if I sell it, whoever buys it isn't likely to sell it back to be, so I just better keep it. Glad you got the car back, must be a great feeling. Nothing worse than sellers remorse.
