Default Best sealer for SB valve cover gaskets

Does anyone have a favorite sealer for their valve cover gaskets?

I'm putting on a new pair of valve covers, and only want to do this
once, rubber or cork?

Thanks

Fel pro cork. Just seal the gasket to cover with small amount of permatex non hardening. Nothing between head and gasket

I agree with BOYAN. I'll add this, every so often just a small amount of tightening along the way will keep them tight. Al W.

I always added a thin film of grease between the head and gasket to help seal it.

In addition, Felpro makes several thicknesses of gaskets. I prefer to use the thick .25" blue stripe gaskets, pn 1627.

Owning a Auto parts store {Walts Auto Supply} I would suggest Felpros cork and rubber gaskets.....They are the best fitting sets. And install them with 3M trim cement. Glue the gasket to the valve cover and allow time for them to set. Once hard they will not move from accidently bumping rockers or any other junk under the covers.....just place grease on the mating side to the head......

done right no leaks and you can remove them easily if necessary in the future....adjusting valves or whatever

Everyone has their favorite sealer and mine is Permatex Right Stuff. An amazing product..... you don't have to wait for it to set before you can return your vehicle to service. Too, it comes in an aerosol can so it's easy to apply a uniform bead.

I generally agree with Boyan's technique: glue the (cork) gasket to the valve cover and use nothing between gasket and head. If you have the time to let Right Stuff dry however, (remember, this is optional), you can also smear some on the gasket surface which contacts the head.

Many don't realize valve cover leaks occur over the top of the gasket between the valve cover lip and gasket ... most good sealants work and I use Ultra-Gray RTV just because I had it around. NOTHING between the gasket and head...consider some PAM cooking spray or a little wheel bearing grease along the ridge on the head where the gasket seals. I do this and can R&R my valve covers a bunch of times to adjust solid lifters with no leaks. I also use the 7/32" thicker FelPro cork gaskets...

I think the thicker gaskets allows you to get a little more life out of each set as you tighten them down after removal you still have some cushion left over time...

Snug up those bolts one more time after a couple of hundred miles...

Just invest in a pair of gaskets with a steel liner, such as Moroso Perma-seal. You can use them over and over and over and there is no need for any glue or gook
