My First Corvette!
I have been reminded that I have been remiss in posting some photos and information about my "new" Corvette. Several of you followed my search for a car and were kind enough to provide leads, advice, and/or encouragement. Thank you to all!
Last week my 1966 Corvette arrived! It is a Trophy Blue convertible with both tops, numbers matching (and believed to be original but who really knows) 327/350 hp L79, 4-speed tranny, and 3:36 posi. Other items of note include the factory a/c, power steering, and power brakes. Knock Off wheels have been added. According to a couple of NCRS folks, it is mostly original (the MC has been replaced with a '67 unit and the seats are now leather instead of vinyl) but I bought it as a driver, not a show car.
However, on a whim, on Sunday I took it to a local Corvette club show and got 2nd place in the Guest category. Here are some photos:
Arrival day:
The happy new owner:
The engine bay - needs a good cleaning:
At the car show:
Second place:
The car runs well, doesn't miss, and hasn't overheated (it was 91* in Phoenix on Sunday). It has been sitting for a while and needs some maintenance, suspension rebuilt, and a good cleaning. All things I'll be addressing in the months/years to come. My first order of business is to make sure it is safe (ball joints, tie-rod ends), then drivable (tune-up), and then cosmetics (cleaning, polishing, and some re-chroming). Eventually, I'd like to put side-pipes on it but I have been advised that the body is too nice to take a hacksaw to it. I guess that is a decision for further down the road. All-in-all, I am very happy with my find.
Thanks again for your help and interest.

Welcome to the club. Nothing better than a '66 L79 4sp w/ a/c. Very nice color too. Congrats and enjoy

Welcome to the wonderful world of C2 ownership...especially a L79 with A/C.

Hey Jeff, congrats. I had a feeling you finally got the car because I saw you had changed your avatar. If you find yourself out and about and heading towards the hills of Prescott, stop on by.

C2 of the Year Finalist - Modified 2020
Congratulations on owning and winning. Speaking of safety, how old are the tires? Research the codes and then find them on the tires. I think anything over six years, is unsafe. Dennis

AWESOME!
Trophy Blue really POPS in person... it looks "electric"! Well done, your persistence paid off!
You may find that tinkering and fiddlin' with the car is a lot of fun too. As you said, get it safe and drive-able first.
I think an easier route to go on the exhaust may be the N11 "off-road" under car option. You will get a good sound (as per the side pipes) but better performance without having to modify you car.

You'll never stop enjoying Trophy Blue. That's the first complement I get almost every time and it's 48 yo paint! The help on this forum never stops as well. Welcome.
