Default where did my spark go?

installed points/condensor/rotor, put cap back on and it fired right up. next step-change plugs/dist cap. That's when my a.d.d. kicked in and I lightly sprayed the engine, firewall, etc with degreaser and wiped things clean. The carb and dist were covered with saran wrap during clean up but now there is little or no spark, I re-installed the old cap but no change. Could Ihave damaged the coil or resistor during clean up? Any input is appreciated

Doubt very much that you damaged the coil or the resistor, but you may have some current leakage from either coil terminal to the metal coil can. Clean off the top of the coil as well as possible. You might try using some brake parts cleaner or electronic circuit board cleaner because they doesn't leave any residue. You can also clean out the underside of your new cap with the same stuff.

You say you covered the distributor but what about the cap ?
Any moisture in there will cause you grief...

Check all wiring connections. Wiping down the engine may have knocked something loose at the coil or ballast resistor. Also, as Frankie suggested, if the cap was removed it could be contaminated. Usually spraying the inside with WD40 and wiping it out will take care of any moisture or contamination.

Try hair dryer inside cap.

Did it run after that? If no, some/all of the plugs wires might have been scrambled.

Oh yeah. I should have picked up on the new points thing considering I'm a points guy - duh! Not an uncommon occurance with newly installed ones. Not much help for you from the peanut gallery this time. Good job of figuring it out.

If your Pertronix doesn't give your coil dwell time, you'll soon be coasting the side of the road.
