Default 4 Post Lift?

I've been procrastinating too long and winter is coming soon. I need a 4 post lift for my garage here in Ma. I have 10'6" height. Any suggestions on which lifts to consider. I will most likely need it installed. I would be hard pressed to line up any buds with mechanical ability that aren't super busy this time of year. I'm a recently retired hvac tech. I'm looking to get this done before turkey day. Thanks in advance.

I have the same ceiling height and went with the ProKar 8,000 lb lift from these local folks: http://www.affordableautomotiveequip...lift-p-98.html It was $1799 or so a while back and works fine. Had to move my garage door opener to the site and manipulate the horizontal tracks up 4" and then everything is fine. I too paid to have it installed and delivered.

My 3 car garage is now a 4 car garage -- how else can you do that for a couple of grand ?

I went with bendpack -- a bit pricier than others, but the build quality is insane. Others will disagree with me, but I highly recommend having it installed--- the parts are bulky, heavy, and even if you're mechanically inclined, just a royal PITA. It cost $850 for my lift to be delivered and installed, on top of purchase price.

The unit I have in the below pictures comes in a low-profile version that fits in standard garage ceiling heights.

Went from a 4 car to 5 car garage :-)

I second the bendpak. Quality is the best. Look at the bendpak website as they compare theirs to the competition. Costs about $1,000 more than the rest. My first was a slightly used one for $2,000. The second I bought new. Installed both myself with an engine hoist including unloading from the trailers. You will likely have to adjust your garage door as well. I high lifted both of mine.

Another Bend-Pak supporter. At least one rolling jack is a must!

I haven't found one of those slider jacks for less than $500 and those were out of stock with no indication of when they will be available. Nice upgrades - but damn pricey...

Try Tec-lifts (Tool and equipment connection) right in N. Attleboro, Ma. They delivered and installed my 4 post lift on Cape Cod. Great lift and super people to deal with. My ceiling height is almost identical to yours. You will have no problems.

Google tec lifts or call them at 1-888-594-7800.

So, edumicate me.

How do those bridge jacks work out when you are doing say -- brake work ?

Do you raise the lift to get room to get underneath to jack the car up, remove the tires and then lower the lift to working height with the car airborne ? Or do you position the lift at working height and crawl under (or whatever) to pump the jack ?

I would think operating the lift with the car on the bridge jack might be a dicey proposition....

[While you are at it, add some rolling jacks.[/I][/QUOTE]

I like my Bendpak HD-7P, shorter table and taller. I just ordered the $1,099, 4,500 # Bendpak rolling jack. Looked at some jacks for half the price but liked the features on theirs. If you can, get at least one rolling jack. I looked at a jack tray at a muffler shop and could see some issues. Right after getting my lift I needed to raise both front wheels, did it on the lift and decided that for me it was the last time with bottle jacks/scissor jacks. I think one earlier question was leaving the vehicle on the jack, the jack does have locks so I assume it will be safe. Would be similar to leaving it on a two post lift. Good luck to the OP.

My ceiling is 10' and no problem stacking 2 Corvettes or one Corvette and my '37 Ford,...but not enough room for my '30 Model A and a Corvette.....

I put the first two lifts together with a friend, but the third one I have I put it together by myself....I used my wheel dollies and a floor Jack among other things.....I will just tell you this, that ramp with the cylinder underneath it is DAMN heavy! I could only lift one end at a time.....but I did it, of course I will never walk straight up again!

I used to have problems with my ceiling height.

One of the first things I did when I retired was fix the low ceiling!

The center is now a bit over 12'!
