I would recommend putting the VIN (hopefully you have it) out everywhere on the internet, in particular Corvette clubs, forums, and websites. Check registries and VIN search engines as well.

While people might not respond right away, the footprints you leave out there can cause someone many years down the road to reconnect you with the car.

It happened to a guy on this site who had been looking for his Dad's car for several years. By chance, I was the guy who connected him with his Dad's old car, when I was doing a search on a VIN on a mid-year I was considering purchasing, that resulted in the car "finding him". He wound up buying it sight unseen that very week.

It may be sitting in my garage. I have no idea what state my '60 was sold in new.

No record found in the NMVTIS. This does not necessarily mean it no longer exists, but does indicate it has not had a change of title status in the last X years. Maybe the same owner has had it for 35 or 45 years. Maybe it's sitting in a barn covered with hay. Or maybe it got wrapped around a tree or the frame broke in half due to too many years of road salt.

BTW - since the car would be 56 years old or so, the color may or may not have been changed several times over the years.

Good luck, but it does not sound like the search will be easy.

No record in NMVTIS means that there has not been any title / VIN related transactions involving this car since Jan 1, 2010.

It could have been registered before then.

So Jan 1, 2010 was the deadline for all states to be on board with that? I know the system ramped up as various states went with it.

And apparently the info entered sometimes extends back a considerable way. I sold my '63 in 1976, and every year or so I ran the VIN (and the VIN's of a couple other Vettes I used to won) through one of the NMVTIS search sites. It kept coming back "no record" until a year and a half ago. The out of the blue it showed a record, and when I sent for the report, it showed titled in Illinois in 2002.

Interesting that it would show a 13YO title transaction.

Good luck with your search - 9859 is a pretty late build. Mine is 9668. Any story about how he came to purchase it? Was it on the lot, special ordered? The '61's would be out shortly after he bought it.

Ours was sold at a dealer in Orchard Park NY and made way to Pittsburgh where my Dad bought it in '62. We still have ours, and the Vette now resides here in the Richmond VA area. Horizon Blue w/ White Coves. Like the color combo!

All states and DC were REQUIRED to input data into the NMVTIS starting on Jan 1, 2010. Many states voluntarily started doing it before that.

States were not required to input existing VIN transaction data, just new data that occurred before Jan 1, 2010. Again, many states voluntarily started participating earlier than that.

Florida and Indiana were two of the states that were participating early. This is how the whole issue of 1953 Corvette #029 came up (google it to get the details of 1953 #029).
