Default Removal of strut rod

Hi All,

1966 327/300
I want to remove the strut rods and strut rod bracket that is attached to the diff.
By releasing the strut rods at the wheel end and removing the 4 bolts at the diff would I be able to remove the whole thing without having to remove any other parts.
Thanks Phil

Yes! Be careful driving the lower shock mount out. Don't beat on the unprotected threads. Use the special nut or double up a couple of them too start the mount moving. Dennis

I'll add this...mix up a 50% mixture of acetone and transmission fluid and soak her for a day...then proceed with that special nut to drive out the shock mount from the strut rod.

I don't think the OP want to remove the lower shock mount, he wants to remove the strut rod bracket at the diff.

[QUOTE=veeeight;1588159335]Hi All,
A-Snake, I think his question is clear. In order to remove everything, in particular, the strut rods, the lower shock mount must be removed. Having said that, maybe he will leave the outboard strut mount attached and let the inboard hang down, thereby completely removing the center mount bracket. Dennis

You're right, I read it as wanting to remove the strut rod bracket

Thanks for your replies everybody.
I have the special tool to drive out the shock mounts and have started to soak them to make the removal easier.
I just wanted to know if the diff bracket with the strut rods attached can be removed by just releasing it where it is attached to the shock mount.
Thanks Phil

I THINK I've done it that way before?? (Age sneaks up on you!) Anyway.. Expect the under-car exhaust to be in the way. Otherwise theres nothing in the way of removing it as an assembly. Worst case, you'll have to separate the strut rods.

Harry

Edit... With the car on jacks the strut rods will be twisted. Jacking trailing arm up a little removes the twist and makes removal of the shock mount stud a little easier.
