Repainting in a non-original color? Regrets?

I asked the same question last week and you are in the same position I am in. I have a 64 which was originally satin silver but has a NOM. I reviewed the threads which featured everyone's ride and I like the silver pearl color but that titanio grigio metallic is beautiful. I might be changing my mine. So paint it whatever color you like and enjoy it.

Do you ever think that sometime in the future it wont matter what color the car is because no one will care as the last of the boomers die out and the cars just aren't that collectible anymore ?
Who cares about model T's or Model A's anymore ?

Guy local to me has been trying for months to sell a beautiful Maroon 67 L79 convertible mid-high $60s price, with gorgeous original body panels, nice dry frame and original drive train. No stories original engine with beautiful stamp pad. Should sell easily right? But it has a problem. The Trim tag says 972 Ermine White instead of 988 Marl Maroon. Oops. Somebody wanted a maroon car, and not a white car. Big mistake.
Don't you do the same thing.

Are people saying," hey the trim tag doesn't match the color, or are they saying," uh, yeah, looks nice, but, uh no, I don't think I'll buy it", meaning they think something looks like crap?
I see some C1s and C2s at car shows I wouldn't be caught dead in with a paper bag over my head, because of the waviness and to me, substandard paint.
Maybe high '60s is too much for a SB original motor car? I have no idea, but I haven't seen the car, either.

Buy the car and search (maybe a couple of years) for someone with an equivalent C2 in a color you like who's dying for maroon. Do a swap and neither of you will need to repaint, saving $10,000 to $15,000 each!

You ultimately have to decide - its your car --- I believe it will be something you may regret down the line - MAROON/MAROON is one of the nicest (and rarest)
combos out in the color options for your car - i do agree with the base coat clear coat in paint

Stay original. Maroon with maroon interior is quite rare and sought after. I missed a 327/350 maroon/maroon car a couple of years ago and am still pisse*. For resale, value, work (no other exterior color goes with a maroon interior other than white) so if you change outside you gotta change inside too. That's a lot of money and work. If its an original motor car, I would strongly suggest staying original. You will post here in 5 years thanking all of us. Just my two cents. ARA

But recognize that you are looking at a $14K paint job.

I think the regrets come in at sale time... not while enjoying the color change.
But if you are worried about value at sale time... maybe the point of enjoying a C2 is being missed.
I have seen some Silver/Red cars, and I think its a nice combo... no reason to think a Silver/Maroon car wouldn't also be nice.
You said it had been in the family... if its going to stay in the family and you possibly pass it on to son/daughter/realitive, then maybe keeping it the way Grandpa always had it, would be more of a family decision.
If you are going to drive it like you inherited it, and cash out when your fun is over... well... pick your favorite color and charge ahead.
All that being said, I would look at some more modern Maroon paint colors... maybe there is something that you might like better. Maybe have the current paint buffed, might give it some more pop.

No regrets
I own an original engine matching numbers 66 roadster, I have had it for 45 years, did not like the Milano Maroon and changed it in 1971.
Almost painted back in 2010 just before my 48 State Tour. Had the painter paint the jams , doors,
He called me and said I should come over...never a good thing.
I saw the Maroon, and guess what.....it is now back to the color I love.
It is worth less......who the hell cares ! Paint it your way !
Parked the car along side a canal in Amsterdam and came back to this. She must have liked the Glen Green

I dated a girl once who was blonde. Later on I got a good look at her trim tag and blonde was not OEM.
I still enjoyed the ride and the attention she got when ever I took her out.
