C1/2 sales strong or not?

Joe, can relate to that ranch. Wife & I did the Route 66 last May of 2013. Those Cadillacs were standing tall on their nose. Must have been 2" of spray paint on 'em from all the years by "Kilroy was here" folks. Hmmmmm. Wonder if a dozen or so Vettes buried nose would generate as much interest there.
Least desirable or not, my friend had a '63 convertible in '76, so he's giddy with excitement on this purchase.

Was there as well with the NCRS (necrotic curmudgeons retards society) road tour in 2009. It's out in the middle of nowhere and not what I had always pictured. I'm always happy to see how much you enjoy your Corvette.
As far as the '63 comment.....well, you know what a shlt stirrer I am.
Take a look at this beauty in post #55 if you haven't seen it already:

I'm wishing I'd of kept my 64 (this side up) for another year or two. I paid 21K for it. put another 5K and a few months time (which I enjoyed anyway) in it, and sold a year after purchase for a bit over 34K. that was less than three years ago, but today you can't buy one in the condition I originally bought it, for what I sold it for. what's that….. 20% a year or so gain? I wouldn't call that a soft market. and that was a lowly 64

1. The Stock Market is at an all time high
2. Unemployment is dropping
3. Interest Rates are still at rock bottom
4. Gasoline Prices are currently low
5. Baby Boomers are in their prime spending years
The US Housing Market is still in a relative slump.
When Housing rebounds, look out.......
Our Economy and the Collector Car Market could boom.
P.S. A major change in any of the above 5 items could derail everything.

I think the garden variety C1s may be getting to be a harder sale unless they are restomodded. The generation that remembers them is moving past their prime purchasing age unless they've been upgraded with newer comfort/driveability features. They'll sell - just takes more work. I will restomod mine or sell it in the next 3-5 years I'm pretty certain.
Can't say as to most C2s but I know I have been rejecting offers on my '63 coupe at least monthly...

Watched the Mecum auction from Anaheim this weekend, and all Corvettes were very weak, especially compared to most other American cars. I was very surprised to see such low prices on the sold Corvettes as well as the non-sale cars.
In my opinion, this auction was the weakest Corvette auction of 2014. Hope that changes soon. You can go to the Mecum website and see the results.

Paying 40k for a 4k car that was new over fifty years ago is insane. It makes no logic and for some an expensive trip back to their child hood.
Some think this is value ?

boy I sure do. I love driving my corvette that turns 48 on Wednesday. I really enjoy many of the people I have met b/c of my ownership and being a member here is a lot of fun. No regrets here

They call them " ego boosters ". People with fifty cents to spend looking at a thirty thousand dollar car. The " would you take " offers are as good as one ply tissue in a bathroom.

But there's something not quite right in your cranium too.

C1/C2 sales
Within the last three months I turned down 100K for my NCRS top flight SWC. I attended an auction this summer and saw a 62 basket case sell for $29500. It was numbers matching but needed another 35K to make to road worthy. Frankie, the others are jealous because they can't say SWC!

Worked at a frenzy to get the SWC (hahahaha) in Necrotic Curmudgeons Retard Society resale ready condition.
Admits that he'll have to resomod his C1 to make money with it.
I was right.....you are a car flipper.
Don't be shy, there's not TOO much shame in that.
Admit it, but when somebody who obviously has lots of $$$$ wheels and deals cars, claiming it's just a hobby, and calls himself a hobbyist, but not a GREEDY hobbyist.

Hmmm,
I just collect cars, i never seem to sell them.
The '61, I bought in 1974,
the '79 Ferrari, i bought in 1984,
the '37 Ford pickup, I bought in 1990 (but waited until 2010 to start the restomod, finished two years later.
the '92 Harley, I bought in '92,
The '72 Corvette, I bought in 2011
I ain't greedy as i will never sell them, I guess I am just a hoarder, but at least all my stuff is in like new, running condition, not rotting away in a back yard somewhere.
I would like a 1966 or '67 BB coupe, but I am running out of room, one would ahve to go on the lift full time

Let's see ... bought the '61 in 2006 and no immediate plans for sale; the '63 in August of 2013 and THAT ain't going anywhere until I'm no longer able to drive
The '67 Chevelle SS-396 I did sorta 'flip' as it was a mistake; I didn't enjoy driving it nor working on it. I lost a few thou on that transaction but was glad to see it gone in about a year.
I think I've only really made money on one classic car in 30 years of owning them after spending the money to bring them up to nice #2 driver condition. If I'm a 'flipper' then I'm very bad at it...
So - draw your own conclusions

I'm selling my 66 BB (nom) vert next spring. I really really am this time I tell myself.
Had it 27 years and in each of the past 3 or 4 I've turned down solid offers in the $35-45K range because they were too low. They may been, but over the same period I've spent about $20K.
