Corvettes and the Snow
First I hope that all Forum members who are in the path of this SNOW STORM that is blanketing a large part of the US are all safe and trying to stay war. I know some of you Forum members have posted pic of your cars or cars in the past that were outside or driven in the snow. I think if you are in NY. or CO. or MN. or states close to them that are being hit hard by this snow storm put blankets and maybe even a heated blanket on your baby and keep it inside and warm. Take the steel cars out and play bumper tag with them. Stay in and warm if you can .

When my '72 LT-1 roadster was new (and my only car), I actually drove it through the Upstate New York winters in 1972 & 1973. Bought a set of tall, skinny aggressive snow tires at K-Mart and the damned thing was like a Jeep. As long as you had any ground clearance at all and ignored 1st gear, that car could go anywhere. What the hell, I was young and foolish and didn't know any better. Sure wish I had that car back now, it would be worth a bit more than the $5300 I paid for it.
The recent heavy snow has missed us so far here in Syracuse, but Buffalo is pretty much buried. I'm sure we'll get ours - we always do. How's the Motorama Corvair coming, Mike?

The big surprise ? A C3 Corvette bolted up the hill like nobody's business. We all raised a glass in salute to the driver and car

Mine spent the first 25 years of its life as a daily driver and saw more than its fair share of snow and salt (including regular drives from Norfolk, VA to Bradford, PA). I think it's okay to let it stay inside.

SNOW - A 4-Letter word
Mike: In Niagara Canada, we are Now getting some pretty heavy Snow... N.F. NY yesterday had Sunny skies, But...
Nothing like what Buffalo NY got all day yesterday and more
to come today & tomorrow. All major Hwy's were closed around
Buffalo, including I-90... We'll just wait it out...
Next week it will be in the 60*F's....

So, I have to forget about it , and hope my tranny has gear oil, or cut the welds on my exhaust pipe and take off the header pipe, so I can get at the plug.

I always get a kick out of this topic. I own a 66 coupe and a C5 Z06, neither has been so much as rained on. They are now "put away" until about April. BUT, when I was in College in 69-70 I had a yellow 365 roadster with 4:11's, AND a Ski rack. I used to regularly drive home from Steven's Point WI, on the weekends to the Chicago area and drive the car from Point to Wausau and the Upper Pensinula to ski. Hey, it was "my car" I needed it to get around....

The original owner of my '67 did drive it in the snow at sometime while in NJ. He told me he slid into a snow bank and the rt rear quarter panel had to be replaced. Easy to tell the work. I have NOT tried the same. Dennis

My first Corvette was a '70 Coupe which was my only car at the time and I drove without issue through 3 particularly snowy Michigan Winters. I do, however, remember having to hold it in 1st gear until the tranny warmed up or it would pop back into neutral. Good times!

Drifting
Back in 1998 I was living in IL and driving a 99 Viper GTS. I bought a C5 so that I would have a "winter" car. Stock tires, daily driver and it never left me stuck in the snow!!! I did get a lot of odd looks , though.....

It was easy, STUDDED snow tires...
When the 68 was new I traveled back and forth every weekend from Dearborn to the Boyne Mountain ski area.....300 miles one way .Then Michigan's governor banned the studs and it became a losing cause in the Vette ....and its been my experience that wide tires are no better than the narrow tread tires and probably worse
