Opinions: Most C2 (or C1) populated state?
Not sure if an answer can ever be had, so it's more of an opinion than anything else.
I was born in California, but grew up mostly in Texas, so when I looked to buy a C2 in 1986, most of the C2's were in Dallas, and then Austin had quite a few. However, for some reason, I think California would have the most C2's in the past as well as present. But I do have to mention that there a lot of them in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
What do you think (C1 or C2)?

California. Huge population, favorable climate both for old cars being preserved and being useful transportation all year round for pleasure, coupled with the high cost of living which makes the cars relative expense less meaningful than in low income/cost states (say, MS). States like Texas offer the same benefits to a large extent, but I'm betting Corvette new sales were always greater in Cali.

has to be CAL. Every corvette I see for sale anywhere in the country "spent its whole life in California before it came out here to _______ (state) just ________ (number) years ago...."

I recall here in the SF Bay Area in the later 1980s and probably early 90s there were newspaper ads from Midwest and Back East dealers saying "we're buying 50 (or 100) 1953 to 1967 Corvettes this weekend," or some such wording. So a lot of older Vettes did spend some time here. Ironically, when I went looking for a 1967 327/350 4-speed Goodwood Green/Saddle factory A/C convertible I saw just two cars in two long years of searching the net every night, one at Corvettes of Carlisle and one in Michigan; I bought the latter.

Me being from California
I think it is shifting. Our Corvette events are poorly attended and I am as guilty on that as anyone else. I don't know if that is because cars in mass are leaving the state, or whether they are projects in the garage currently like me, or whether California dealerships just have a glut of them in the lot, which I don't see! I can't speak for NorCal, but I think everyone in California is into Toyotas, Nissans, MiniCoopers, Mercedes, and BMW's or newer Corvettes! I just don't see the California early cars much. Even on the forum, there are just a very small handful of California based guys that talk fairly regularly. I personally think Socal has long ago lost the lead on the most C1/C2/C3 cars or the State is so large, that they are here but so spread out!

It would probably seem like California, Texas or Florida. But there is at least four 62s and two SWCs with one being a fuelie within a few miles of me south of St Louis. Even a 63 fuelie convertible just a block from me that has been sitting in a garage about twenty five years. Possibly one less white 58 with the passing of a friend last week.

There are quite a few C1s and C2s in Texas. Lots of barns in Texas too!
In less than a 5 mile radius from my house, there is a '58, '60 (sitting at local caddy dealer next to a GNX, NSX,Delorean, and a F430 Ferrari), another '60 that's sat 14 years (90% restored), a '64 convertible, 5 C3s. That is just within a 5 mile radius from my house that I know of. Really hard to say which state has the most, but as far as space goes...Texas beats them all.
Here is a pair of '54's we found out in Ft. Worth 4-5 years ago. The basket case was $5,000, and the complete (maroon) '54 was $25,000. I think it was like $29,000 for the pair? But it was a pretty cool find to say the least.
Also found this original 1962 Porsche 356B S90 Coupé that had sat 30 years 2-3 blocks away from my house as well.
Texas has a ton of cars!
After 3 days of carefully extracting the trash off of the lacquer paint, it cleaned up well!
Anyways, in every town in Texas I have lived in, there has always been someone with a C1,C2,C3 on my street or just around the corner. In all honesty, they may actually be tied (TX-CA) as far as Vette population.
1958 1 owner, 2X4's, numbers matching everything. Older restoration done in the early '90s.

Ohio corvettes
Even though Pro Team is in Ohio they have missed lots of cars here.
I have run across a dozen's of cars in the past 5 years including a 57 Corvette Gasser, numerous C1's and C2's and cars like the first airbox car.
They are still out there.

Well this might be a clue!
Possibly a similar fate happened to the C1/C2/C3 cars!

They may be in CA, but they don't get driven a lot.
I drove my '61 in MT all the time, from about Mid Feb thru Late Oct.
When i moved to SoCal in 1980, i hardly ever drove it after that because the traffic sucked, and I know it isn't any better now. It just wasn't any fun, sitting at stop lights, and forget the freeways, unless it was 2 AM
In Rural AZ, i drive my collector cars fairly regularly, and go to a lot more shows now.

No, it's not a lot of fun sitting on the freeway with your clutch leg starting to cramp up as you watch your temperature gauge creep up. And that's in the middle of the day on a week day.
