Default Corvette hibernation and road salt

Looks like it's that time of year - Corvettes being put away for the season. How long does your Corvette stay put away until it comes out for the next driving season?.

Road salt: How long to wait before driving the Corvette on roads that have been salted? .. Is the road being dry of moisture enough, or ? . .

Being out here on the left coast, just curious. . .

(I know Jackfit isn't shy about the weather......top down. .. Just sayin')

Up here in northern Minnesota, I put my two C1s away near the end of October and bring them out in late April.
Since salt is used liberally here I usually wait until a few good spring rains before I take them out. The salt residue takes some good rains to wash off.

Here's an article I did for Vintage Motorsport magazine on storage. You have to think about the conditions in your storage facility.

First salt application was last week in Cleveland, OH. I see guys bring there cars out on dry but still heavily salted roads. I think it's a mistake as you drive around in a cloud of salt dust that gets into every crevice. I wait for that first solid heavy rain after the last salt application before I head out. That is usually in late April.

I think the dust is worse , you can't even see where it goes

Every humid day the salt is activated.

I put my 67 and the wife's 99 Mustang GT in a snowbirds (friend) garage last week and will get them out in mid to late April of next year. By that time, history shows that all of the salt has been washed off the road. As others have stated, the salt dust is a major concern.

I just got my 66 back from the shop wednesday. If I lived 5 minutes to the west every road has heavy salt to the point they are white. The interstate had 1 coating on it also. We drove all back roads all the way to the WV line and then I was safe. Maryland is so salt happy it's unreal!

We got 5 inches of snow last week and the roads got salted. It is going to rain here for the next several days with the temp going up to 60. If we get enough rain to wash off the salt and the roads get dry, I am taking a drive.

I agree with the others. You need some heavy rain before you start driving these cars after the last salt application.

If it rains in the winter and then dries before the sanders come out, I drive. I have driven when the roads were dry, with no rain, as long as there isn't alot of salt on the road. I've had the 65 43 years this month and never had any frame issues. It was my daily driver in the early 70's but I usually managed to buy a cheap car to drive in the winter when I was a kid.
