Parts Collection of 52 Years
Did a road trip to MD and NY to help a buddy move his 52 year Corvette parts collection to his home in MD. He's had parts in 3 locations, NY(his Dad's home and where he grew up), MD, and FL for a long time and was dreading the task of moving the huge NY parts collection.
He and I drove from Florida to MD last Wednesday, unloaded and organized that garage location. Here are a few pics of those pieces....
Then he and I and his SIL drove up to Long Island in a 26 foot lift gate equipped rental truck Friday night at 11PM to avoid NYC daytime traffic. The BQE(Brooklyn Queens Exp) was a breeze at around 4AM, except for a truck detour that took us into the city with no "Detour" signs. The GPS saved us on that adventure.
We got to North Central LI at 6AM. Sleepy and tired, we immediately started into it. When he opened the garage doors my jaw dropped. Here are a few pics of the 2 bays and the full attic above.
He started working on Corvettes at age 16, and has worked on, owned, restored, fixed and tinkered with hundreds of Corvettes in his lifetime. He owns some unique cars, many original and nos parts and memorabilia. He has many project 1954 to 1966 Corvettes and needs all of the parts in one place to try to get them done in the future. He is the most possessed and passionate Corvette guy I've ever known.
We loaded up the 26 footer to the max. We had to worry about weight as there were 15 or 20 engines, dozens of cylinder heads, lots of unique heavy parts, and well....just tons of stuff.
Here is the pile after unloading the truck yesterday. There are some pretty special parts and unique items. See if you can identify some of them.
Oh, BTW that's a Ford Panel truck, and we had to tow it around back. The Chevy tow truck got caught up in a little mud and the driver(my friend) had to GUN it to get through. In the process, I got a taste of MD Eastern Shore mud.

Oh, BTW, he'll have to back to NY and get the rest of the stuff in the attic we didn't have time to to finish packing. Probably another 10-20 bins and some big pieces too. I think there are about 20 starters and generators there, and some large fiberglass pieces. We ran out of bins and boxes and had to hit the road that night.
Yes, some of the stuff is junk, but hard for him to part with.
I'm the same way, just on a much "smaller" scale.

Wow - I looked at the first couple pictures and thought OK - not a big deal. Then I kept scrolling down your pictures and holy cow - that is some serious parts and car hoarding! He probably could stand an intervention and passing some of those parts on to someone who could use them for some retirement income. I'm sure it was an interesting day.

Those pictures make me feel SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!!
We had our house built in 96 with a 6car garage (because our former house with a 3car garage was packed along with the attic) so that I would NEVER run out of storage room. Wrong!
By about 5yrs ago, both the 6car garage and the attic had become packed and we had to leave at least one car (we have 7) outside. Last year my wife said you need to build another building----------------so I obliged her to keep her happy. The new 5car building was finished last month, and I thought that now I have enough room for EVERYTHING and can put all 7 cars and the jet boat inside. WRONG again! DANG, and I just thought I had a lot of stuff!

So thats where all the FI units went. he could drive prices down if he put them all up for sale at once....
The second set of pics of the LI garage could ahve been taken at the place i bought my Corvette from, in 1974. I always referred to it as a hot rod junk yard.
He would do himself, and a lot of other people favors, by selling some of that, as it would bring top dollar a piece at a time, and only a fraction of what it is worth, if sold as a lot, by his estate.

Wow! as others have stated, he needs to sell some of the parts.
"He has many project 1954 to 1966 Corvettes and needs all of the parts in one place to try to get them done in the future."
I think he would need a 10 person shop working full time for many years in order to finish his "projects" given all the parts he has.
Did the panel truck and you get hosed down after getting hit with the mud? Great picture for future laughs.

Please give him a giant "Thank You" for me. Today, I will be able to walk into the garage and state loudly "I am NOT the most disorganized person on the planet!". "Good Guys" car shows and auctions also have that sort of reinforcement effect.

That borders on insane...in a good way. Who wants to hazard a guess as to how long it would take to categorize and organize all of that? Best of luck and you truly are the definition of "friend".

If you must be a hoarder, better to hoard rochester fuel assemblies than stacks of old newspapers and beer cans.
