`67 427 engine factory-correct question
Hi All
In my reference photos, I noticed that underneath the valve cover bolts, there appear to be a metal tab that on some of my pictures are chrome silver (bare metal) and on others are engine orange. There appears to be some type of braided line from them to the spark plug wiring shielding. My question is, did these metal tabs come from the factory in chrome silver (bare metal?) or were they painted?
Below are two pictures, one with the orange tabs and one with the bare metal.
Also, comments on the accuracy of the overspray on the exhaust manifolds is appreciated!

The bolt speders were painted orange. To be 100% correct the manifold was completely painted orange. Then when the engine was started the paint burned off. Also only cars with radios got the braided wires

The green car in the photo used to be mine, and the bolt spreaders should be orange. I had them off to be resprayed and replaced them with natural finish parts while this pic was taken. They tend to get beat up when you have the valve covers on and off repeatedly.
The intake and exhaust manifolds, however, were intentionally not oversprayed/painted(respectively) with engine color because I like my cars over-restored and cannot stand the appearance of overspray or other production-line imperfections.
The car in the first photo is the one that is technically correct.
The braiding is a shield against radio interference from the ignition system, just the way the full sheetmetal shields are on small block.

Thanks so much. Such detail is exactly why I love this place. I never would have thought about the possibility of the paint burning off the manifold.
So they were orange from the factory. Does that mean that the bolts were also orange as well?
Thanks!

I don't have the AIM in front of me but if thoes bolts are not called out with part numbers then the factory did not install them. If that's the case they would be painted with wrench marks.

Bolts were on at the engine plant when painted. 2 on each side were remover to attach the plug cover grounds & I believe that most I of the time new bolts were used but I assume sometimes the painted ones were reinstalled. Since none of us were there we will never now for sure what Corvette got what.

The unpainted bolts are indeed longer (to accommodate the stacked lugs from the braided shields), and have a different head mark. I will post a picture of mine when I get home this evening.
