I have a 1320 SF garage, if it is full then I don't buy anymore but I still have room for one more Corvette.

It is heated and stays at 48 degrees all winter.

I'm fortunate this year. A friend finished a new six car garage on the lot next to his house and our Z28 get to stay there until next spring for free at a constant 50 degrees.

i rent a 10x20 storage unit for $85 a month. very nice units, but entire storage area has gravel roads. it is conveniently located just a couple blocks outside our gated subdivision. i pull my car out of it frequently while the cars in my own garage rarely get moved. out of 300 storage units there are only a handful of units that i ever have seen opened. last year, while prepping my car for winter, the owner of the unit next to mine opened his unit and he had a 1967 Shelby cobra. although there are a lot of storage units with what i consider a lot of thrash, it just makes you wonder how many have extremely valuable items in them.

Looks like about $75-$80/month here for a one car storage unit. I was surprised! I wouldn't pay it!

Considering your hamburgers are $10 (our's $2.50) and your plumber charges $300 for a house call ($75 here), I'd say your are getting a bargain.

You probably have to make $15-$1800/yr to pay $100/month. Pretty expensive.

I've got something next to free. I pay $150 for the season (Nov.1 to April 30th) in a 3 car attached garage. A fellow retired LEO does house checks for snowbirds and splits the fee with the homeowner. He checks the house twice a week and will turn on my trickle charger once a month for a few days. I have my 67 and the wife's 99 Mustang GT in there.

Where do you keep your car doing the driving season. And why can't it stay there all the time.

What makes you think Brian drives it? It might get road dust on it.

I have a 10x40 unit I rent for 150 month...and a 10x20 we have for 100 month. It's amazing how full all of the storage facilities are! I've had the larger unit for a few years, but when we got another car I had to find a new unit...After checking about 15 different storage places, we finally found one with space available...It's crazy that these places are so full...and I bet most units are usually full of junk!!

You gentlemen are paying a fair rate compared to my wife's charge to use our 3-car garage to store my '67 year-round. My cost is a piece of jewelry of her choice! Still, I think I'm getting the better deal...

Default Maybe buying is better?

I sold my house (with 3 car garage) when I retired and bought a condo in a resort area in North Central Minnesota. When I did this, I knew I could buy a 30X40 insulated storage unit near my condo for a little over 30K. I paid cash for it, and now my costs are $276 a year for taxes and $300 for maintenance. I'm in it for less than $50 per month. If I had paid, say $5k down, I'd probably have a $250 per month payment, for a total cost of $300 per month. I could have gotten heat, but passed since I spend my winters in the keys. My neighbor occasionally uses it to work his snowmobiles, and has told me he has never seen it under 20 degrees in the unit. (My neighbors heat theirs through the winter). I have all 6 of my "fun" cars in there, and have room for my old pickup over the winter, plus there's room for another car. In the summer, it's a full shop.

This has worked very well for me, and BTW, I see that units in the complex are selling for more than I paid for mine. Sometimes it helps to look at things in a different way.

If you are asking me, we sold our house in 2001 and moved into a new site condo with a 2 1/2 car attached garage. I prefer to keep our 2 daily drivers, even though they are GM leases, in the garage for convenience. Plus we spend a short time in Florida every year.
I used to be the caretaker of my buddies 17 car facility years back but he gave up on classic cars and his stable of Corvettes, so I lost a great facility 2 miles from home.

I've got my Camaro stored at the local guys garage that owns the town gas station. $35/month and it's heated. Being in a small town pays off now and then.

I pay $150 a month for a 15x20 garage under a duplex. Although not directly heated, unless it gets really cold outside, it's usually around 40 degrees inside.

Pauly, correct me if I'm wrong, but there has been a thread in the AOPA mag lately which has indicated that storing anything other than a plane and plane related equipment in a hanger, is against FAA regs.

There is no true answer, it depends on where you are. Geographically, NYC area (Long Island) $100/mo is a good price for a one car garage in that region. A parking garage is like $500/ mo now with the parking tax for the DD in the City. Closer to the big City you are, the more you will pay. Same as renting an apartment. Most rented garages (around NY) are just for storage and working on cars would not be allowed by most either. Pilot Dan

It's not law yet, but they are trying. Just another example of our dysfunctional Government trying to stick it's nose further into the lives of the law biding citizens (aka the low hanging fruit). Such BS to say you can't store a car (or anything else non aviation related) with your plane if you have extra space and are paying for it. Too bad for us they don't pay as much attention to closing our borders.

Not my Goat. But my Z28 will be spending the winter with the GTO and Clay's recently purchased 57 Thunderbird.
