Default Looking to purchase 66 / 67 C2

I have begun to look for a mid year and have learned a lot by reading this forum. This is my first posting so apologize if mis-stepping here but am considering this one on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131358710047

Says it had frame on restoration and has been repainted (both of these make me a bit suspect) but owner says it drives tight. Thoughts?

I do plan to have a professional inspection done (likely spending $300-$400).

Hi , most of our cars have been painted, and many , if not most have a body on restoration. Having a good inspection of car is what is really needed in cases like yours as a new owner

Happy Thanksgiving and welcome to the forum. Here's my take on this car.

1. Although the car as A/C (a big plus) the price is too high for a low HP auto with a color change.
2. I'm always leery of a painted engine stamp pad.
3. Described as having a teak steering wheel, it's not, it's plastic.
4. Aftermarket radio and antenna.
5. Not only does the rear spring look flat and may need to be replaced but whoever installed it didn't even remove the shipping retaining bands.
6.He states he that he has a clear "Texas" title so why does the car have Missouri plates?

I'd be tempted to pass on this one unless he's willing to come down at least 10k!

Gary

Where do you see the shipping bands?

Welcome to the CF. Stay in touch and ask any question you like. Very nice looking car with a beautiful interior color. I noticed a couple of things, no big deal. Front sway bar and end link bushings are urethane instead of rubber and the rear spring is a replacement from some source with non stock band wraps. You are doing the right thing having the car checked out. But, will that person be knowledgable of C-2 Vettes, they are unique. Dennis

50K is way too high. The color change, and the auto would kill it for me......however if you really want an auto trans, and don't mind the color change, I still wouldn't pay more than 43K......providing the inspection is good of course.

They're located about 6" from the end of the spring. They're those rectangular pieces with the little rubber flaps on the bottom. They're put on at the factory (aftermarket) for shipping then are supposed to be removed once the new spring is installed.

I also noticed that the master cylinder has been replaced which is fine except it wasn't replaced with a stock one. Difference in price? The replacement on the car cost about $200.00, a stock cylinder costs around $900.00.

It IS sort of a 66/67. The master cylinder is 1967-style or later. A concern if you (or someone who might buy from you, if that's in your planning) cares about originality and NCRS judging. If not, it's just an observation. I trust you know that the chrome oil filler cap and voltage regulator cover are not correct. Chrome oil filler cap is for 350-horse car. It's black on a 300.

I believe this is a very late production car and some of those had the new to be '67 design seat belt buckles. Dennis

Where can you get an air cp for much less? Even if the engine where wrong a air car is still worth $40,000. You would need to do an inspection on the body and the vin tag they are important more then a few small things being wrong. I believe the seat belts are correct with that vin#. I just looked at another 66 Air cp for about the same money and the body was trash under the nice paint.

Yes--I had a recollection that the newer buckle style showed up during the '66 model year, and I did a little research and concluded the that buckles ARE correct based on the VIN, so I edited that part of my comment out by the time I saw your message.

If you are interested in a 66 small block car, there is no reason to rule out 65s. In fact, the 65 is the best year mid year ever made, despite what some will say that 67s are the best.
You might look at the thread entitled corvettes dead in CAN.
The poster there has been trying to sell his 65 coupe, and getting no action at all. Car is supposedly priced to sell. You may catch him at a good time to buy.
Good luck

He's used the pictures from when he bought it, I would guess. That's from a dealer in Missouri. You should call them to get more background.

I can't believe someone painted a Nassau Blue car white. Not that it looks bad in White - I've never seen it done.

I'd put $40K on it.

Well, if you're right that's another red flag.

That dealer specializes in Vettes, primarily driver quality like this one. Pretty nice guys though. I wouldn't let that stand in the way.

I understand where you're coming from. What would concern me is why would the new seller be using the old photos???

All right, the Turducken won't be ready for a couple of hours, so I'll bite:
What makes 1965 the best C2?

As for the original topic, from the photos, the car looks very nice. The interior is in much better shape than the one in my car. The color combination is sharp. I sort of get the motivation of whoever changed the paint color: The contrast is nice.
