Corvette Video
This is a great video and so true to life.
I waited until I was 50 for my first Vette.

Wow! Thanks for that. It's the story of my life. Wanted one since I was 13 when the '59 model came out. Always close to having one throughout my life, but no cigar. I'd get within grasp of one and then other life priorities would come along just like in the video. But I always talked about them to my wife and pointed them out in traffic. Then, one day, at the age of 65, I was talking about Corvettes again to my wife when she turns to me and says, "We're retired and have done a good job getting to a point in our lives where everything is taken care of so just shut up and go buy a Corvette".
Didn't take me long to follow those orders <LOL>. And now she has one, too so we have 2 in the garage, an old one and a new one, something I never imagined having in my most wildest dreams.
Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

I had only even ridden in one Corvette (back in the 70s) before I bought my '61 in 2007 at age 56. Substituted with British cars until then; MGs, Triumph Spitfire, Sunbeam. Then on to Mustangs for a while.

As a teen in the 70's I told myself I would own a Corvette by the time I hit 30 and at 31 I bought a 75 Auto Coupe. What a POS car that was, I learned a lot about Corvettes after that.
Other than a handful of years I have owned C2 & C3 Corvettes ever since. I'm currently doing a frame off on my 65 which is Corvette #8
Life is short live your dreams.

I like the commercial, it's sweet and he does the right things. but I'm surprised they bought an ad campaign that does in some way reinforce "old men are still dreaming about Corvettes, teetering precariously into the dealership to spend their final days in a car recapturing youth"
Media buys for this ad would be select. GTR and 911 buyers wouldn't, as a group, be swayed much I don't think.

When I got there the Sunbeam was a disappointment as so many (up for sale) tend to be. It was a rat, a snot, what ever you want to call it. Beautiful cars but with the shelf life of soft ripened cheese if not lovingly kept.
While there I fell hopelessly in love with a recently restored silver 65 Roadster with power windows and a black leather gut. I was sucked in even before realizing it was a 396 car and would be comparatively expensive.
So I own a Corvette precisely because I love Sunbeams. There, off my chest and out of my conscience.

I just watched the video again. The young boy admiring the Corvette for the first time reminded me of a kid about his same age who admired my car shortly after I bought it.
I had pulled into a parking lot and the young boy and his father were coming out of the store and walked over to my car. The kid had a huge smile on his face and his eyes were lit up. I invited him to sit in the driver's seat. He was so excited he was trembling. His father went to his car to get a camera and took several pictures of his son beaming from ear-to-ear while holding onto the steering wheel. Right about then, the boy's father says to his son, "Enjoy yourself because you'll never be able to own one." The joy in his son's face was gone in a flash. It was heartbreaking to watch.
Not wanting to dress his father down in front of his son but also not wanting his statement to go unchallenged, I offered up my story of how I thought I'd never get one either and pointed out that if you work hard, save your money, make smart decisions, and be patient, you can reach your goal (which is what his father should have said in the first place).

I remember riding my bicycle and looking at a C1. And I remember when the 63's first came into the showrooms, I said I want one.
I skipped a year between high school and college to work just so I could buy one. I was 18 when I drove my 63 to my first year in college.
Haven't owned any other car but Corvettes since then.

I'll let you in on a secret, or no, maybe an admission. I've always liked C2's but never fancied them enough to seek one out. But I always loved sunbeams and wanted one (still do) so bad that I chased one all the way to Mecum Kissimmee in 2012.
So I own a Corvette precisely because I love Sunbeams. There, off my chest and out of my conscience.

Eight years ago the deal fell through at the last minute on the bone stock '66 MK1a you see in the pic below, a few months later I bought my '62 C1.
The Tiger eventually got sold to someone else and disappeared for seven years, by pure luck I found it again and was finally able to buy it last summer.
Keep looking, they're still out there.
Paul
PS. Cute vid, helps explain why you only ever see old men driving new Vettes.

By Sunbeam, do you mean Tiger, or Alpine, or both?

Great video. There was some good creative talent behind that.
Many of you guys got into the Corvette hobby at a relatively young age. I loved the C1 Corvettes when I was in high school in the late 50s.
I would have bought one earlier except I was building up a retail hardware business in the 70s. I couldn't imagine buying one when I was trying to pay off some big debts from the initial investment.
I finally bought a new '86 after I had sold the business and soon added two C1s a few years later.
Today I was out in the heated garage doing some minor parts replacement on all three. At 73 I am finding it a bit difficult getting under the cars. But what an excellent way to chase away the early winter blues!

What I got out of the video was stay single and you can have anything you want.
